On 24 June, algae, the raw material of the future, fascinated Bodo Ramelow the Prime Minister of the federal state of Thuringia (Germany) during his visit to CIRCALGAE partner SALZBRÜCKE SALATA AG in Ritschenhausen. [Projet Européen 💡] Le projet CIRCALGAE, dont le PÔLE AQUIMER est partenaire, suit son cours depuis octobre 2022. Tout d'abord, la quatrième assemblée générale du projet s'est déroulée les 30 et 31 mai 2024 en Norvège. In the evolving landscape of sustainable bioprocessing, the extraction of valuable biocompounds from residual biomass is a frontier with immense potential. The CIRCALGAE project is at the forefront of this innovation, employing advanced mild extraction techniques like ultrasounds and high-pressure homogenisation to harness the full potential of microalgae industrial by-products. Why mild extraction techniques? ✔ Preservation of the bioactive integrity: ultrasounds and high-pressure homogenisation maintain the integrity of the sensitive bioactive compounds. ✔ Maximized yield and efficiency: those processing methods ensure a more uniform and effective cell disruption, facilitating the extraction of intracellular compounds. ✔ Eco-friendly processes: minimizing the use of toxic solvents and studying a minimal sample treatment significantly reduces the environmental footprint of the extraction process. ✔ Scalability and versatility: High-pressure homogenisation is a technique that allows a easy industrial scaling. ✔ Cost-effective production: the efficiency and the high yield of those techniques contribute to lower operational costs. Incorporating high-pressure homogenisation or ultrasounds into our bioprocessing workflow not only optimizes the extraction of high-value products from microalgae by-product biomass but also supports a more sustainable and cost-effective approach to resource utilization. At CIRCALGAE, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the way we approach biomass utilization. Our goal is to create a sustainable cycle where every part of the by-product marine biomass is put to beneficial use. [Training 👥 ]   On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, CEVA (Centre d'Etude et de Valorisation des Algues) provided training as part of the CIRCALGAE project. CEVA experts presented and explained the production of seaweed and microalgae in Europe, as well as the range of uses in which they can be valorised (in food, feed, cosmetics, biomaterials,…) 🌿💧   Participants had the opportunity to visit CEVA's technical facilities, from the laboratories to the pilot plant 🧪 🤝 Thanks to CEVA for sharing their knowledge and expertise with the participants in the international and French sessions, who came from Spain, Iceland, Ireland, the UK and France!   This course has been awarded the EMD in my Country label.   👉 If you'd like to keep updated with the latest news on the project, sign up for our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/e6vPbMTx #Training #Algae #Project #EMD2024

This photo means a lot to me, to us, and also to you: It symbolizes the union of more than 20 institutions, universities, and companies from all over European Union to research new circular economy solutions through the wonderful world of #algae. It represents that we do it with the generosity of sharing knowledge and visions, collaborating with the goal of positioning Europe as a leader in research, development, and market. But most importantly, it signifies that we have built a #bridge between all of us to achieve a more sustainable and innovative Europe. I can't think of better companions in this adventure than the partners of the CIRCALGAE project. 🌿𝐔𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐝-𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 🌊 The industry processes and produces significant amounts of microalgae and seaweed, but only a fraction of the raw materials is used. The Horizon Europe project CIRCALGAE aims to develop sustainable algae-based biorefineries on the unused algal biomass and transform it into ingredients for the feed, food and cosmetic applications. I and @Marianne Dore Hansen have just attended the two-day consortium meeting of HEU CIRCALGAE, organized by Norwegian partner @Alginor. The second day the consortium partners travelled by boat to Haugesund, for a visit of Alginor's installations.
