It’s really happening. 🏌️♀️🏌️ The Peoria Park District’s Golf Learning Center is undergoing a $4.5 million renovation to become a state-of-the-art interactive entertainment venue. 😎 The facility will feature a full-service bar/restaurant and a 21-bay, multi-level driving range with the same technology used at TopGolf locations (“TopTracer”). A special thanks to Peoria Park District Executive Director Emily Cahill and State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth for bringing this to our community — it wouldn’t be possible without you. ❤️ Gordon-Booth, who helped secure funding through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, believes this is a huge boost for our quality of life. “This will bring in people from all around the region because we know that when the park district says, ‘We're going to do something,’ nobody does it better. This is going to be second to no other experience that folks have been able to take part in,” she said. Nothing breathes life into a city like community events. They’re the heartbeat of a thriving region. That’s why we’re pumped to bring another event to you on September 15th — capping off an epic summer in the River City. 🤘😎 Let’s recap: ❶ On July 4th, over 200,000 people flocked to the Peoria riverfront for the largest fireworks show in Illinois. Choose Greater Peoria Red, White & BOOM was all-time. A booming success, if you will. In tandem with i3 Broadband, we were proud to bring a day of fun, fireworks and summertime memories to our community. 🎇 ❷ A few weeks ago, hundreds came out for the inaugural Choose Greater Peoria Downtown Disc Golf Experience. In partnership with Ledgestone Disc Golf, we brought Greater Peorians a one-of-a-kind 18-hole pop-up disc golf course along the Peoria riverfront. It was unanimous; everyone had a blast, including Professional Disc Golf Association players Anthony Barela, Ben Callaway, Adam Hammes and the 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒 𝐅𝐏𝐎 𝐋𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧 herself, Holyn Handley! 🥏 ❸ Finally, GO DAY, happening on 9/15, is a culmination of these incredible events. It’s a rallying cry for the community to unite once again and celebrate the place we call home. We’ll have it all, too. Hands-on sports activities. Art exhibitions. Food and drink vendors. A stage featuring local talent. And a few special surprises. 😉 Did we mention it’s free to attend? These events serve one purpose — to widen the circle so everyone feels a part of something bigger. Greater Peoria is our home. And it’s a special place full of remarkable people. Meet Scurry Miller — President and CEO of the Children's Home Association of Illinois. He’s also a live music lover, servant community leader and social butterfly. His #GreaterPeorianStory is bursting at the seams with inspiration. A story that saw a homeless, drug-addicted juvenile on the streets of Austin, Texas turn his life around to become a C-level executive for one of Illinois’ largest nonprofit organizations. 🙌 💯 Scurry doesn’t just have an awesome Southern accent, personality and name. He also has an awesome outlook on life and a heart for vulnerable families and youth. Here’s what Scurry would say to his 10-year-old self: “Remember that it’s going to be alright. Remember that you’re loved. And that it’s okay to make mistakes. Don’t let life become dull or boring. Take charge because you only get to do this one time. You’ll always have what you need to live. The largest international swim school is now open in Peoria. A HUGE congratulations to franchisees Alison and Matt Unkovich for bringing Aqua-Tots Swim School to our region! 👏 💦 Aqua-Tots Swim School Peoria is a beautiful 7,500-square-foot facility where safety and fun are top priorities. The 56-foot-long pool in the center of the complex and floor-to-ceiling glass viewing space allow families to spread out and watch their little ones learn and master the water. And if your kid hates cold water? That’s okay because they keep the water at a cozy 90 degrees! 🙌 Alison and Matt moved here from downtown Chicago six years ago with two little ones. Today, they have four children and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
