We’re Stronger Together… This month at SOCO, we’re exploring and celebrating the idea of teams, relationships and working with incredible people that light you up. I’ve always worked better collaboratively. Bouncing ideas off of others, lifting up and adding to others’ ideas. That’s my principal role at Period Three (our design/development studio and a SOCO member company). Joining client teams, understanding their needs and contributing to their teams’ ideas and initiatives. Recently, I had the time of my professional life working with one of the best nonprofit teams in South Carolina. We’ve been a long-time agency of record with the Children's Trust of South Carolina. They have a daunting (and admirable) mission: To stop child abuse and neglect in its tracks. To actually prevent abuse and neglect from ever entering into the life of a child. It’s a tall order, but they do it in such a novel way. They: - Serve as a clearinghouse for prevention funding from a range of sources 💰 - Actively invest those funds into organizations on the front lines 🪖 - Seek to empower these stakeholders through training & skills development 💪 - Build coalitions & high impact collabs with child and parent serving orgs 🙌🏾 - Seek to change the narrative around child abuse and neglect 📣 Our team was brought on to work with them on their latest statewide initiative called SC Parents. It’s our state’s first platform and community exclusively dedicated to helping parents navigate the journey that is raising kids. We built this project from the ground up leveraging their team’s deep expertise and the support of some incredible collaborators including Bailey Lewis w/ Words First Content Strategy, Will Weatherly of Digital Done Smart, Harrison Croft, Doug Black with tripleNERDscore and Eva Foussat w/ Eva Foussat Creative. We spent 18 months working on customer discovery, deep user experience research, content strategy, storytelling work, custom illustrations and design, front/back end development work and some incredible performance monitoring and reporting (hat tip Will Weatherly). Best of all, we merged our capabilities with those of the Children’s Trust Marketing & Comms team (with deep expertise, professionalism and a commitment to innovating), namely Bett Williams, Kara Anderson, Justina Applebee , Kenzie Russeau, Todd Hooks and Brittany Crowley. The point of all this? - This project is going to be big.  - It’s going to help people (we hope) - It has a chance to make a real impact on a pervasive and terrible issue - NONE of it would have been possible had we not locked arms, cast a broad vision and pulled in diverse and talented skill sets. On Thursday, State Child Advocate and South Carolina Department of Children's Advocacy Director Amanda Whittle (right) snapped a quick picture with Dr. Tonya Matthews, president of the International African American Museum, before both took the stage before 600 people for the closing keynote at the Children's Trust of South Carolina #BuildingHopeforChildren conference. Whittle shared inspiring words about the incredible power we all have to build hope for children through empathy and a sense of urgency. She then introduced Dr. Matthews, who delivered a keynote on using hope as a strategy to bring positivity not just into our own lives, but into the lives of others as well. Thank you to Children’s Trust SC for a great conference and congratulations on 40 years of advocacy that focuses on prevention efforts and community resources to support children and families!
