Recently we celebrated Clinical Support Staff Appreciation Day here at Children's of Alabama! Our clinical support workers (such as Clinical Assistants, Unit Support Specialists and Telemetry Technicians to name a few) assist healthcare practitioners in the delivery of patient care. They take on tasks such as welcoming and preparing patients, obtaining vital signs, explaining treatments and updating patient records. We honored their hard work and dedication this year with t-shirts, breakfast and unit based celebrations.

Governor Kay Ivey declared September 30th to be #NICUAwarenessDay. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s of Alabama provides the highest level of care to our tiniest patients. It is also the largest department in the hospital, with more than 250 staff members. Our NICU is a Level IV unit with 48 private rooms available for neonates and infants. It houses 4 ECMO rooms and is the only unit in the state that provides dialysis for premature infants.

The PT and OT Department at Children’s of Alabama operates with the motto: “Developing skills for life”. Our team is #hiring! Our aim is to assist patients and families in achieving meaningful goals and functional outcomes through education, evidence-based practice, equipment recommendations and innovative treatment. We care for children from birth to early adulthood with a wide variety of developmental, physical, sensory, cognitive, behavioral, and/or functional impairments. We have a large team of staff therapists that are complimented by our team of Flexi Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Our Flexi Staff primarily work on the weekends to provide evaluation and intervention for a variety of acute care patients as well as intervention for patients admitted for Inpatient Rehabilitation. Occasional weekday opportunities are available as staffing needs arise but hours during the week are not guaranteed. Acute care and/or Inpatient Rehab experience is preferred for our flexi staff. We expect our Flexi staff to be comfortable working with a variety of diagnoses as well as have a baseline level of comfort working with patients of varying levels of assistance. Experience with adaptive equipment is helpful as well as strong time management and independent clinical reasoning skills. https://lnkd.in/gqjfBiXa
