“Our youth are facing a mental health crisis. We need to remove barriers to access to those who are wrongfully denied mental health care.” Children Now's Lishaun Francis, MPP and Senator Scott Wiener recently spoke with Mark Kreidler at Capital & Main about kids across California being wrongfully denied medically-necessary mental health treatments by insurance companies: https://lnkd.in/gQu2-qrw The Youth Mental Health Access Act, authored by Senator Wiener and co-sponsored by Children Now and the County of Santa Clara, would ensure all mental health care denials are reviewed automatically. That means when kids have the right to coverage, they get it. Learn why it is so important we pass this bill for California's youth here: https://lnkd.in/gw-eHFWb

Nearly half a million kids in California aged 16 to 24 are “disconnected” - meaning they aren’t in school, employed, or looking for a job. New data from the 2024 KIDS COUNT Data Book, recently released by our partner the Annie E. Casey Foundation, shows our state not doing nearly enough to support our kids. California ranks an alarming 37th among all states in "Family and Community" and 35th in overall kids' well-being. While California leads the country in some areas, we are failing our kids and threatening our collective future. We can and must do better. Download the full report here: https://bit.ly/3La5epR

You can help kids in California get the hearing aids they need! While campaign efforts last year didn't result in insurance companies covering hearing aids for the over 20,000 kids in CA who need them, we are still asking California lawmakers to "Let Kids Hear:" https://bit.ly/4cIZqzw From now through 5pm tomorrow (Thursday), you can help update California's health insurance benefits to include covering hearing aids for kids. Just send an email to "[email protected]" and tell California's leaders to Support Hearing Aids for CA’s Kids!

New data from the 2024 KIDS COUNT Data Book, recently released by our partner the Annie E. Casey Foundation, shows California not doing nearly enough to support our kids. Our state ranks an alarming 43rd in kids' economic well-being, 35th in kids' education, and 35th in overall kids' well-being. One bright spot though? California ranks 3rd-best in the percentage of kids with health insurance, with the state's elimination of Medi-Cal premiums for kids that allowed millions more families access to health care being a major factor. California can and does lead the country in some areas. But overall, we are failing our kids and threatening our collective future. We can and must do better.
