Congratulations! We're so happy to have supported you. Adelante! #LatinoGrads #graduation
I am proud to announce that I graduated cum laude from St. Olaf College with 2 degrees in Studio Art & Art History with a concentration in Race & Ethnic Studies, topped with my 4.0 major GPA and 3.74 overall GPA. I am the first on my father’s side to graduate from grade school, high school, and now college. To say the least, being first generation was not easy. Majoring in art was a hard, but rewarding decision coming from my first generation background. I am so happy to make my younger self proud by majoring in my ultimate passion: art and culture. Younger Jessenia would be ecstatic to hear that we achieved the following at college: - Aced an origami class and taught my classmates how to fold origami yodas! 💚 - Wrote my art history thesis on the intersection between Chicago public art and bell hooks’s love ethic 🫶🏽 - Earned the St. Olaf College Established Leader Award for putting my community first and promoting art across campus 🎨 - Designed the Flaten Art Museum’s first student-designed sticker (that ran out within the first couple of months!) 🤩 - Curated 5 galleries, connecting student creatives to publish their art and literature for their first time through the St. Olaf Quarry Fine Arts and Literature Magazine - Studied art in NYC for a month and found the courage to apply to work in the world's most prestigious museums 🎉 Thank you to the Renaissance Scholarship, Choose Chicago Future Leader Award Scholarship, Chicago Scholars, and the Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation Scholarship for funding my education. I couldn’t have been able to complete college in 4 years without your financial support.

EXCITING NEWS: The Illinois General Assembly passed H.J.R. 69, the Work Permits for All resolution! 🎉 This resolution sends a strong message to President Biden to extend work permits for long-term undocumented immigrant workers living in Illinois. Huge thanks to the many organizations, business leaders, elected officials, and to you, the advocates, who backed this resolution and helped make today possible! And special thanks to Deputy Majority Leader in the House, Lisa Hernandez and Senator Karina Villa for getting HJR 69 across the finish line. #WorkPermitsForAll #WP4A #immigration Latino Policy Forum
