About us

For 130 years, Chicago Commons’ mission has been to partner with individuals, families, and communities to overcome poverty, discrimination, and isolation. Chicago Commons enables families to break the cycle of poverty by providing early education, strengthening parents and caring for the elderly, while also advocating for their equal chance at success. From our first settlement house, we’ve centered ourselves in underserved communities to give our neighbors the tools and skills they need to reach their greatest potential.

MEET KENNEDY ALLEN! A proud Chicago native, first-time marathoner, and part of #TeamChicagoCommons! After discovering her love for running during the pandemic, she's taking on her biggest challenge yet: the 2024 Bank of America @chimarathon! Running has been more than just a hobby for Kennedy—it's her happy place, a source of discipline, and a way to connect with an incredible community. What makes this race even more special? Her mom, a Chicago Commons team member, ran the marathon in 2001. Now, it’s Kennedy’s turn to take on the course with her mom cheering her on! As Kennedy says, "Running is my happy place. It pushes me to new levels of discipline and consistency—the only person involved in my success is me!" We’re cheering Kennedy on as she runs for a cause that’s close to her heart! Chicago Commons empowers families and communities through education and support services. Let's show Kennedy our support as she tackles this incredible goal—every donation and word of encouragement makes a difference! ✨ 🗓️Join us as we cheer on our runners this Sunday, October 13th! We are ready for Team Chicago Commons at the @chimarathon Charity Block Party! 🎉 ➡️ Donate here: https://bit.ly/3Y5FceS #TeamCommons #ChicagoMarathon #HotGirlRunner
