October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month! Join us in supporting survivors of domestic violence by providing a safe space to share their story and heal from trauma. Millions of individuals experience domestic violence each year, regardless of their age, race, or gender. Through advocacy and prevention, we can bring awareness to those affected and help them along their healing journey. Why is National Domestic Violence Month important to ChicagoCAC? 3 in 5 children who experience domestic violence in their homes also experience some form of child abuse. Those who experience it are also at a greater risk for adult health problems including mental health conditions and physical issues. Having served over 50,000 children and their families, ChicagoCAC is uniquely positioned to lead the creation of Chicago Advocacy Network for Hope (CAN Hope), which is a state-of-the-art response system for adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence in our city. This multi-agency, multi-disciplinary, co-located center will provide services to adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
