  • This #MemberMonday – our first one post-Skyline 2024 – the spotlight’s on Sales Committee member Nick Woloszyn. A Director of Client Development for RGP, Nick shares what’s motivated him over his past three years of work for the Chicago Associate Board of Ambassadors and the American Cancer Society. What inspired you to join the ABOA? My father passed away in 2018 after a 26-month fight against stage IV pancreatic cancer. I have other family members who've had cancer and know countless others whose lives are being impacted by the disease. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member? Last year's Skyline Soiree! I had several friends buy tickets and the evening couldn't have been more enjoyable. They were astonished at how much money the ABOA and everyone in attendance raised at the Soiree itself. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? The year-over-year growth in the amount we raise, which has allowed us to entirely fund two research grants and be well on our way to raising $1,000,000 a year! If you could have dinner with 3 living celebrities (all together), who would they be? Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Robert Plant. What is the best book you've ever read? The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. If you played baseball, what would your walk up song be? “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones. You have your own late night talk show, who do you invite as your first guest? My two-year old niece, Cora! If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be? Dublin, Ireland If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why? Gladiator What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? Keep on keepin' on.

  • This #MemberMonday we’re spotlighting our DEI Chair, Chaunyce Dixon, MBA. A three-year member of Chicago Associate Board of Ambassadors, Chaunyce shares her inspiration and motivation in supporting American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer – and ensuring that everyone, equally, can win that fight. What inspired you to join the ABOA? Knowing that everything we are doing and working towards is for something good, that can change lives, and I am able to be a part of something that presents more opportunities. From being a part of ABOA I was invited to be an ambassador for the ACS Voices of Black Women, a study to better understand factors affecting Black women and improve their health for generations to come. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member? Attending the 2023 Discovery Ball and seeing Miral Kotb tell her story of survival, with the help of the beautiful performance from iLuminate. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? My fundraising success. Upon joining the one thing that I feared the most was the fundraising aspect, because I hate cold calling. I kept that in mind with each call that this was for a good cause, and I slowly began to make progress and gain confidence with each call. Over time I built relationships with various companies to the point that they are repeat donors, which makes me happy, and I was awarded for my fundraising efforts. If you could have dinner with 3 living celebrities (all together), who would they be? Janet Jackson, Rihanna, and Vanessa Williams. If you played baseball, what would your walk up song be? It;’s a toss up between Prince, “Baby I'm a Star” and Pink, “Get the Party Started” You have your own late night talk show, who do you invite as your first guest? Arsenio Hall. My mom told me that when I was younger I would get excited when his show came on, so I think it would be a full circle moment. If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your smartphone, which ones would you keep? Bible, BMO, Duolingo If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why? Spice World. I remember how excited I was watching that movie and singing along to each song. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? The answer will always be no if you don't ask.

  • We can’t wait to get together at Cirque du Skyline, a week from Saturday! As the event comes closer, here’s some need-to-know information. Q: Remind me - where and when is Skyline this year? A:  The Salt Shed (1357 N Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60642). If you purchased Early Entry, you can arrive and start the party at 6pm. General Admission begins at 7PM. Q: What should I wear? A: Wear your festive cocktail best – whatever that means to you. Q: My friends don’t have tickets - is it too late? A: You can still buy tickets here: https://lnkd.in/gQbsMeRd You can also buy tickets at the door the night-of (if they’re not sold out), so feel free to bring your friends, their friends, those people you just met at Lottie’s, and your Aunt Jodi who you forgot was visiting from Pittsburgh that weekend. Q: Are you feeding us? What about drinks?  There will be buffet style food stations, including Italian Beef, Chicago-Style hot dogs, Potato Pave, Charcuterie, and assorted pizzas. There will also be an open bar. All drinks are included, alcoholic and non, and a few local beverage companies will have tasting stations. Q: What if I don't want the party to end? The Salt Shed event ends at 10pm – but the party will continue at Joy District after that. A charter bus, provided by Aries Charter, will be available first-come, first-served. You can also join the after party via your own transportation. Q: Speaking of transportation - how do I get to Skyline? To arrive directly at the venue and not stress about parking, we encourage you to use Uber, Lyft, Curb, or your favorite ride share service. Other options include: The Bus: 70 bus (stop Division/Elston), 72 (North Ave & Elston The L: Blue Line (Division), Red Line (North/Clybourn) - both 0.8 miles Driving, in which case you need to park: There are 7 Spot Hero lots within 0.8 miles of Morgan Salt Shed, in addition to street parking on all surrounding streets. Note that street parking is very limited. Please also plan additional time due to traffic from the Air & Water Show. Q: I can't come to Skyline. What else can I do to support you in the fight against cancer? We’ll miss you, but thanks for your support! Scroll down on the Skyline ticket page linked above, and you can make a donation that will support life-saving cancer research and those going through treatment. Q: I want to support you even more! Can my company match my ticket through a corporate matching program? Your ticket counts as a charitable donation that employers can match. You can check on the American Cancer Society website if your company will match your ticket. Follow your company policy to submit your ticket receipt for matching. We’re so excited to celebrate with you! Have more questions? Message us.

  • This #MemberMonday, new member Charlie Gers shares how he came to join the Chicago Associate Board of Ambassadors this year. An Account Executive at GERS USA - Consulting Engineers, a consulting engineering firm, Charlie’s personal journey inspires him in the fight against cancer. American Cancer Society What inspired you to join the ABOA? As the child of a cancer survivor, ABOA's mission to help promote awareness and raise funds for cancer survivors, caregivers, and researchers is one that holds a profound meaning to me. Supporting the ACS through the ABOA is a crucial way to continue leading the fight against cancer and being a part of a compassionate, like-minded group of individuals that are making an impact in their community. What is your favorite memory from being an ABOA member?   So far, my favorite memory from being an ABOA member is the Chicago Skyline Soiree kick-off party at Hubbard Inn – though I’m sure this answer will change after the Soiree itself in a couple weeks. When you think about your time on the ABOA, what are you most proud of? In the short time since I joined, I am proud to be a part of this group and initiate my personal fundraising page to meet my annual goal. I am also proud of the advocacy I have done so far, whether it was by bringing friends to the kick-off event or by spreading awareness of our mission through my social media. If you could have dinner with 3 living celebrities (all together), who would they be? Jay Shetty, Dave Portnoy, Tim Cook If you played baseball, what would your walk up song be? Mr. Brightside If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be? Bangkok If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why? The Hangover 1. Because like every other movie, the more you see it the less funny it gets and the sequels aren't as legendary as the first one. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? "Despite how open, peaceful, and loving you attempt to be, people can only meet you as deeply as they've met themselves.”
