We are proud to announce that Chapa-De Indian Health was recognized by the Sacramento Business Journal as an honoree for the 2024 Champions for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Awards. This award comes as we celebrate our 50th anniversary as a non-profit organization. In 1974, we were established in Auburn after a study found higher incidences of health needs amongst local American Indians compared to other populations in our area. Now 50 years later, we are still working hard to ensure underserved populations have access to quality healthcare services. "DEI is baked into our culture," said CEO Lisa Davies. “I work with a group of 300 folks that I call ‘Do-Gooders’ who are just exquisite in their ability to see and understand and welcome everyone who comes into our clinics." Building trust is at the core of Chapa-De. Putting your health in the hands of others requires trust. We know trust is not easy to earn - especially with communities previously let down or harmed by government and healthcare systems. We have worked hard to build a reputation as a reliable organization. We take time to know each patient as an individual and we hire carefully. It is important that our patients can trust they will be treated consistently with competence, kindness, honesty, and understanding. #ChapaDe #CommunityHealth #BuildTrust

Last month in March, we asked our patients to share their Chapa-De stories to help us celebrate 50 years as an organization. This is one of those stories: "I remember crouching on the floor in the Auburn waiting room, moving beads up and down, back and forth on wires with my little fingers. The warm faces and sweet voices and long hair of the receptionists in the sunny atrium. They knew me and they knew my mom, they liked us. Sitting in the waiting room with my little brother and sisters and looking at the children painted on the wall. Talking to the doctor as a young adult, learning how complicated things get for girls, and feeling my voice was heard. When I was in a long bout of crisis, Chapa-De was there and saw me through it. On Monday, we joined together with members of our Chapa-De team, Board of Directors, construction partners Dreyfuss Blackford Architecture and JAX Construction, and members of our sponsoring tribe, the United Auburn Indian Community. We gathered at the future site of our new health center in south Placer County to thank and acknowledge the profound gift the land provides us to create a space of healing.  A land blessing was offered by Alan Wallace (Washoe/Maidu). His words, offered partially in the Nisenan language, noted the journey Chapa-De Indian Health has taken in the 50 years since it was established in 1974 and its impact on those it has served. We thank him and all who joined us on this day as we begin the next chapter in community healing as an organization.  We will begin construction in the summer with plans to open doors for the community in 2026.  𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯, 𝘔𝘪𝘸𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘥𝘶, 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯, 𝘔𝘪𝘸𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘥𝘶 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦.    #ChapaDe #CommunityHealth #IndianHealth
