About us
Central Maine Power (CMP) was founded in 1899 and today serves approximately 653,170 electricity customers in an 11,000 square-mile service area in central and southern Maine. At CMP, we've always been dedicated to the communities we serve, and strive daily to provide safe, reliable service to customers. That's why we provide more than electricity. We spearhead conservation efforts, encourage economic growth, assist area businesses and fund important charity organizations through established and often one-of-a-kind programs.

In Maine, some things don't change. Our summer intern, Kerrigan, found a 1959 issue of our internal employee magazine, "The Exciter" that highlights the people who maintain CMP's trucks and other vehicles in our garages at our regional service buildings. We still have these garages to make sure our fleet of vehicles runs smoothly 24/7! "The Exciter" has since been replaced by email.

🌟 Reflecting on a Successful Community Connection Event! 🌟 Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Buxton Town Hall offices to learn about billing, account assistance, and our programs at CMP. Your engagement made it a success! We’re committed to continuing these efforts. Stay tuned for future events! Rhonda Yorks #CommunityConnection #CustomerSupport #CMP

" I think I laid the cornerstone there." Our company and Maine's electric utility industry were built by people like retired CMP Customer Service employee, Nancy Pratt-Knowlton, who worked in our Lewiston offices and once handled 7,000 customer accounts decades before the first computers were unboxed in our Contact Center. For this #throwbackthursday, a big thank you to Nancy and others like her for their service to all of our customers over our 125 years!

Today is National Lineworker Appreciation Day. We celebrate all of our nation's lineworkers and honor the life of Henry Miller, a lineworker and the first president of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), who was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1896. Our lineworkers often work around the clock and in dangerous conditions following storms and other extreme weather events to ensure that the customers and the communities they serve have access to safe and reliable electricity. Today, and every day, #ThankALineworker

We're getting ready to celebrate America and its founding like so many Mainers tomorrow! We're also taking a moment to celebrate the remarkable people who defended and built our country like Roland Brown, a longtime CMP employee now retired, who still returns each year to help train our new classes of lineworker apprentices.

Being part of community and school events is one of our longstanding and favorite parts of life at CMP. A great example is this, the "Egg Drop" we've been part of for years at the Nickerson Elementary School in Swanville. Here, students create ways to protect eggs from a 40 foot drop and we help them test out their designs!

Over CMP's history, we've had a countless number of amazing employees who we're celebrating as part of our 125th Anniversary this year. One of them is Brenda Benner, who, among other achievements, helped launch CMP's first computerized customer service system that preceded the 24/7 Contact Center we have today!
