About us

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) is a national organization dedicated to increasing the availability of quality, equitable health care for people living with a serious illness. As the nation’s leading resource in its field, CAPC provides health care professionals and organizations with the training, tools, and technical assistance necessary to effectively meet this need. What is Palliative Care? Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) is specialized medical care for people living with serious illness. It is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness—whatever the diagnosis. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Palliative care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses and other specialists who work together with a patient's other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment. Join our team! https://www.capc.org/about/capc-careers/

  • 💻 Interprofessional Grand Rounds 'Providing Culturally Centered Care for Indigenous People of North America' on Tuesday, October 15 🔗 https://ow.ly/zUKG50ToASm Indigenous People of North America (IPNA) living with serious illness and their families have unmet needs within our health care system. It can be challenging to provide culturally centered care when clinicians have gaps in knowledge. Within IPNA communities, numerous disparities impact social determinants of health. Often, there are complexities in navigating the Indian Health Service and Tribal 638 programs, including understanding how they intersect with mainstream health care in rural and urban areas. However, there are cultural communication strategies for approaching topics of a serious nature to facilitate these conversations and overcome these complexities. In this Interprofessional Grand Rounds, the presenters empower attendees with the knowledge and resources they need to provide a culturally centered approach when caring for this population.
