Engaging, equipping, and empowering the next generation of Hawai'i's future leaders to start making a difference now.

About us

Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders is in the business of developing young leaders for Hawaii. We work every day to engage, equip and empower Hawaii’s youth to become tomorrow’s visionary leaders. Many of us have wondered at one time or another - who will guide Hawaii into our next chapter? We know that we going to need a new generation of leaders who are equipped and ready to lead. To secure this future, we must identify talent now - talent found in every high school across the state. The CTL is ready to help these emerging leaders succeed. We provide an effective and comprehensive training structure for emerging leadership. We connect emerging leaders with accomplished leaders and peers. We catalyze transformative youth leadership projects. CTL is currently working with over 500 students from 5 islands across the state. In all programs, CTL is creating an atmosphere for leaders, from all cultures and backgrounds, to be discovered. We empower young leaders to start to solve our community’s most entrenched problems. CTL is currently building on effective high school leadership development programs to design supports for postsecondary and career success with Vanguard, our opt-in alumni network. Ultimately, CTL will continue to collaboratively train a growing pool of committed, resilient youth to become the next generation of leaders.

  • So nice to see our alumnus, Anjali Cash, working on affordable housing developments with Catholic Charities Hawaii!

Earlier this week, we celebrated the completion of the fourth and final phase of our Meheula Vista senior affordable rental housing development in Mililani Mauka. Built over a nine-year period in four phases, Meheula Vista provides low-income seniors with an affordable permanent living option so residents can “age in place.” Serving seniors with incomes of 60 percent or less of the area median income, the complex houses four apartment buildings totaling 301 housing units and 170 on-site parking stalls. “Our organization had the foresight 25 years ago to establish Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation to allow us to build affordable rentals for seniors, families, and the underserved,” said Catholic Charities Hawai‘i president and CEO Rob Van Tassell. “Mahalo to all stakeholders who helped develop this project and those who joined us on this special day.”

This week, we want to continue to highlight the small businesses in the Chinatown and downtown Honolulu area who were impacted by the recent outages. There are great hidden gems throughout the area that may not have a social media presence but have a variety of ono foods that everyone can enjoy, especially if you work or live nearby. Let’s keep up the support and aloha for the mom-and-pop shops in the Chinatown and downtown Honolulu area!  Small businesses featured in this video: YiFang Fruit Tea at 1116 Fort Street Mall – refreshing fruit teas and boba drinks. Ohana Dish at 1120 Fort Street Mall – Japanese plate lunches. Fort Street Café at 1152 Fort Street Mall – variety of Vietnamese, Thai fusion dishes. New Char Siu House on 1134 Maunakea St - delicious, meaty Chinese dishes.

  • Last week our Summer in Hawaii interns learned about how layered systems impact our communities with AES Nā Pua Makani! Alongside their community internships, our interns join us for enriching Fridays filled with field trips, guest speakers, and discussions, all aimed at deepening their roles as local leaders committed to Hawaii. Mahalo to the AES Hawaii team for sharing your knowledge and expertise about renewable energy.

In April, the Center for Tomorrow's Leaders hosted its annual Vision Lab event, highlighting youth leadership initiatives across Hawaiʻi. With projects led by high schoolers in the Ambassadors program, our Finalists presented them through impressive skits to a full house of community leaders and stakeholders. But before the final round, CTL invited us Vanguard alumni to judge the semi-finalist groups... for the very first time! It was challenging but highly rewarding to determine who would present on the big stage. However, it wasn't only based on performance or confidence. In addition to our rubric, we were told two very important criteria (especially when groups scored close). We had to especially measure the impact of the project and the work it took to achieve their goals. As alumni of the program, we know very well what it takes to create and develop a CTL leadership and service project with our classmates. We stood in their shoes once. So, it was no surprise that our Ambassadors carried similar ambition, skills, character, and love for our home. It is a reminder that the leaders of Hawaiʻi are already here... and ready to create the change they wish to see in the world. Thank you, CTL, for inviting us to Vision Lab and creating opportunities to build up our next generation.
