Conducting Collaborative Innovative Genomic Research

About us

The mission of the Center for Military Precision Medicine (CMPH) is to conduct innovative research to apply genomic science, discoveries, and precision techniques to enhance the health, readiness, and well-being of service members and the community. CMPH will be the central hub for collaborative genomic research, education, and treatment in military medicine. In 2014, CMPH was established as a strategic alliance between the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institutes (NHLBI) and the Uniformed Services University. The purpose was to explore problems of particular importance, especially disorders of the heart, lungs, blood and sleep. In 2016, The American Genome Center (TAGC) was created to provide the technology and expertise to conduct studies of larger populations by rapid, precise genomic sequencing. TAGC has significantly exceeded its goal of sequencing genomes. Scientist from many disciplines came together to harness genomics, supercomputers and bioinformatics to predict and pre-empt disease, mitigate and repair traumatic injury, and optimize human performance and resilience. In concert with clinical scientist, their studies can contribute to novel personalized therapies that benefit civilians and service members alike. By looking at patients’ genomes, healthcare providers can potentially identify unique targets and pathways of relevant disease to facilitate improved detection and potentially, effective intervention or prevention. CMPH, under the directorship of the Anatomy, Physiology, & Genetics department chief has four operational cores : Laboratory Core, Bioinformatics Core, Research Core, and Clinical Core.
