The C2ES Climate Resilient Communities Accelerator wrapped up a collaborative workshop in the North Front Range of Colorado. Alongside local partners, we convened public and private stakeholders to explore how solutions like resilience hubs and microgrids could help bolster #resilience in the region. Participants engaged in roundtable discussions about what it takes to implement these solutions in the North Front Range, explored the value of data tools to make the case for more investments, and discussed how a regional network could support resilience hubs and microgrids. This was the second event in a three-part collaborative series to inform, connect, and empower key stakeholders to lead or facilitate resilience solutions that serve communities and vulnerable neighborhoods. Thank you to the presenters and collaborators including: Colorado Department of Local Affairs, Colorado Energy Office, Colorado State University's Climate Adaptation Partnership, The State of Colorado's Office of State and Community Energy Programs and The Governor's Office of Climate Preparedness & Disaster Recovery as well as Jonathan Asher, Jessica Filante Farrington, Jake Gaffigan, Molly Green, Marguerite Harden, Kimelyn Harris, Allison James, Blythe Johnston, Jessica Lau, Erica McIntire, Camille Millard, Peter Olivares, John Parks, Grace Troccolo Rink, Andrea Savage, Taylor R. Smith, Jahan Taganova, attendees from local governments and organizations across the region and the C2ES team Libby Zemaitis, Amy Bailey, and Jennie Rhodes. In our latest report, Nicholas Franco and Naila Karamally dive deep into the world of corporate low-carbon transition plans, revealing key insights and strategies for building credible plans and driving real change. 🔑 Enhance planning: Set more interim targets for climate transition plans using established, credible guidelines. 🔑 Enhance transparency: Embrace iterative planning and focus on real emissions reductions. 🔑 Enhance performance: Prioritize action over planning. Credibility is a function of results, not intentions. Reall the full report ⤵ https://lnkd.in/eXDMrGhB #lowcarbontransition #esg #corporateresponsibility #climateaction

C2ES international staff Catalina Cecchi Hucke and Amy Merrill provided seminal input on a new OECD - OCDE study of the interplay between voluntary and compliance carbon markets, focusing on environmental integrity and GHG mitigation. The paper defines key carbon market concepts, reviews recent developments, and highlights policies to support the establishment of consistent international high-integrity carbon market frameworks. Read the full paper here: ⤵ https://lnkd.in/gSnEN9tZ #voluntarycarbonmarkets #carboncredits #climateaction
🔀 To understand carbon credit markets, you need to understand their interplay. For the last year and a bit, I've tried to make sense of carbon credit market interplay. How do these markets interact? And what does it mean for their potential to support climate change mitigation? The output of this work is published today 👉 https://lnkd.in/eBKpijEm 3 reasons to read it: 🔠 Unpacks key concepts like carbon market interplay and environmental integrity 📈 Takes stock of carbon market trends, with a focus on interplay and integrity 🏛️ Advises governments on how to manage an increasingly complicated market landscape Huge credit goes to Jane, Lambert, the Carbon Market Platform delegates, and all the other experts who made the breadth and depth of this output possible. No time for >100 pages on carbon credits? Don't worry, I'll be posting bite-size chunks here in the coming months 😊

Businesses face increasing pressure from various groups—including investors, customers, and employees—to set climate targets backed by detailed implementation plans. In response, an increasing number of large companies are setting long-term goals to reduce GHG emissions, especially “net-zero” or “carbon neutrality” commitments for the year 2050 or sooner. The details of the targets and corresponding transition plans vary but are generally more ambitious than previous corporate commitments. C2ES staff Nicholas Franco and Rosalie Ruetz authored a chapter on corporate climate commitments for the "Handbook of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation." 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ebNRXsY5 More C2ES insights on #lowcarbontransition planning coming soon...

As record-breaking heat waves sweep across the country this summer, the dangers of extreme temperatures are clearer than ever—and so are the costs. The Atlantic Council estimates extreme heat costs the U.S. $100 billion annually in GDP, potentially doubling by 2030. I recently spoke with Yahoo Finance about the significant impacts of extreme heat on the U.S. economy, and how companies are responding. We need more action from both the private and public sectors to build a more resilient grid and economy while cutting the emissions that are driving up global temperatures.
