Congratulations to you and the team on your excellent work!
After taking some time to reflect on my final semester as a Civil Engineering Student, I wanted to share my capstone project, culminating all the knowledge and understanding I’ve built in undergrad to this moment. My team and I saw a demand for more affordable housing options in the greater Boston area and we decided to construct the Harambee Park Center: a dual community center and affordable housing building to fit the needs of the community. The siting, researching, designing, and engineering of this building required extensive collaboration between my team and I over the entire semester. As a collective, we further challenged ourselves in using a newer method of construction in utilizing prefabricated modular design due to the expedited construction time, minimized waste, and overall lower costs. In addition to designing a building we were proud of, the purpose of our project was able to reach a greater audience in being selected to present in front of the Northeastern University Industrial Advisory Board! Thankful for the rest of my team, Jordan Marshall, Moritz Langner, EIT, Jayla Tillison, Katherine Kenney, as well as all our professors, Nathan Boutin, P.E., Andrew Myers, PhD, PE, and mentors at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) who guided us along the way! #engineer #structuralengineering #modulardesign #affordablehousing #sustainability #prefabrication
