We are forever grateful to President Joe Biden for his tireless work to #EndGunViolence and his selfless choice to put our country first. His graceful exit today exuded characteristic grace and valor. We wish him and Jill well. 🧡

“We cannot simply rely on enforcement of existing firearms legislation to prevent tragedies like this one… We must react and reexamine our collective indifference to addressing this issue.” The PA Attorney General is 100% right. We must #BanAssaultWeapons now. These weapons of war — the gun of choice for mass shootings — have no place in Pennsylvania communities. https://lnkd.in/e_a-k6E2

"Adam Garber, executive director of CeaseFire PA, a gun violence prevention organization in Pennsylvania, said the details of that call to local police, or what the parents knew and when, could yield more answers as to whether charges may be brought. "'The DA will need to ask two key questions. First, what did the parents know about their son's intentions and when did they know it?' Garber said. 'Second, how did their son get the firearm — and did they know where he was taking it? Those questions of the intent and access are key to assessing their culpability.'" https://lnkd.in/eqGQAgtk

Guns don't start interpersonal conflicts, but they can escalate them and even turn them deadly. We are relieved no injuries have been reported so far in yet another example of PA gun violence, this time in South Philly. https://lnkd.in/ewEbj-nR

This weekend's assassination attempt was PA's 19th mass shooting of 2024. One thing is clear: stronger statewide gun laws could stop future mass shootings. See our full statement on this harrowing event here: https://lnkd.in/e5JUpzqd

Violence is never the solution. It has no place anywhere in Pennsylvania. If gun violence can strike one of the most protected people in the world, surrounded by some of the most highly-trained armed guards in the world, it's clear that more guns will never make us safer. We're glad that President Trump is safe. But every day in America, hundreds of families experience what the Trump family experienced today. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We hope this is the time we can come together from all political stripes to ensure every one of us are safe from gun violence by establishing life-saving laws. https://lnkd.in/g4HRMzwi

Shapiro signed a bipartisan budget that invested $56.5 million in community gun violence interruption programs, representing a $16.5 million increase from last year's budget.
