📣 Water systems, October 16, 2024 is quickly approaching! 💧 Environmental engineers Danielle Liu, EIT and Carolyn Loudermilk reveal insider tips and best practices while putting those finishing touches on your initial service line inventories for Lead and Copper Rule (#LCR) compliance. Read the article: https://bit.ly/47cEr6E #LCRR #LCRI 🔎 By clearly defining service lines, systematically compiling and updating inventories, and understanding the nuances of material classification, utilities can effectively protect public health and achieve compliance. 💭 Defining a service line: Understand and interpret the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s definition of service lines, including the terms "building inlet" and "outlet," to classify the service lines in your system correctly. 📝 Creating and compiling inventories: Develop detailed records from different data sources, making sure each service line has a unique identifier and resolve any discrepancies. ✏️ Maintaining and updating inventories: Inventories must be updated annually with material classifications, considering historical pipe replacements and potential lead contamination. 🚰 Documenting lead sources: Document any potential lead sources in premise plumbing during inspections for comprehensive lead risk management. ✔️ Read the article for more detailed guidance and tips: https://bit.ly/47cEr6E

📝 What You Need to Know About Lead and Copper Rule (#LCR) Notifications: Starting October 16, 2024, water systems must provide residents with specific information about their service lines. Strategic communications expert Rose Hanson shares key insights on content, delivery, and timing for notifications required in US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Lead and Copper Rule (#LCR). For more insights and updates on the LCRR/I, subscribe to our newsletter: https://bit.ly/3TNLLQA ❓ What is required? Sending out notifications using the EPA or state (if applicable) template to consumers of water at properties with lead, galvanized requiring replacement, and unknown service lines. Typically there are three different templates–one for each scenario. After October 16, 2024, utilities will need to send a similar notification at the time of service initiation, for example when a water account is opened by a new homeowner, for any properties with lead, galvanized requiring replacement or unknown service lines. ❓ Who receives the letters? The EPA requires the letter to be sent to the persons served by the service line, which would be the residents. However, some states require a copy to also be sent to off-site property owners. Check state guidance before creating mailing lists for the notifications. ❓ When is it due? Notifications must be provided within 30 days of completion of the initial inventory. We recommend sending as soon as you can and not waiting the full 30 days, as the election means it’s a heavy mail season, which could cause delays. ❓ What resources are out there to help? EPA template and resources are here >> https://bit.ly/3zIy2E0 Check your state regulatory agency/department of health for state-specific templates. ❓ How much can you modify the state or federal template? You can customize the “fill in the blank” areas of each template. You can also add information such as a link to a survey for customers to self-identify and report pipe materials and/or information about any lead service line replacement program. If you are planning to make edits to the language that is not intended to be customized, including deleting content, you will need to send to the state for review and approval before finalizing. 📬 Subscribe to our newsletter to stay in the loop and get the lead out: https://bit.ly/3TNLLQA 💧 #LCRR #LCRI

🎉 A new era in affordable, efficient, and clean heating and cooling has arrived: https://lnkd.in/gKcC3D3i ⚡Framingham, MA was chosen by Eversource Energy as for a pioneering #Geothermal Pilot Project site due to its geological viability and community enthusiasm. Recently, Eversource and CDM Smith celebrated the launch of the system with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The nation’s first utility-owned networked geothermal system is now providing clean heating and cooling to 140 utility customers in 96 affordable housing apartments, a fire station, a community college, and private homes and businesses. 💡The project signifies a transformative shift towards #sustainable energy. By leveraging the city's urban density and clean energy aspirations, the project introduces a revolutionary geothermal heat pump (#GHP) network to replace traditional heating systems. As the pilot progresses, customers will have the option to revert to their original heating systems or opt for eco-friendly alternatives, solidifying geothermal as a crucial player in the future of sustainable energy. https://lnkd.in/gKcC3D3i #GeothermalPilot #CleanEnergyTransition #SustainableFuture
