Never too late to learn to code! Years ago when I became a full-time Data & Analytics geek, during the prehistoric "big data" wave of buzzwords, I had a decision to make: Learn to code, OR Focus on my strengths (asking the right questions, bridging business problems to data & analytic solutions to decisions to results). I chose to focus on my strengths, and suffered mostly self-inflicted ridicule and large doses of humility whenever the team went into code-speak mode. Well, now I'm on the learning path to code! I earned my first Python certificate, and am progressing to the next level. Huge thanks to Charles Severance for teaching the course through University of Michigan and Coursera!! Contact me directly, or visit CDAO Partners LLC, to transform your data into revenue and customer growth. Please share, repost, or comment if you enjoyed this post. #AnalyticsForImpact, #python

Decision Tradeoffs Leaders face tradeoffs between speed and quality. Analytics is no different. As the leader of a data & analytics organization informing $multimillion decisions, I faced tradeoff decisions all the time. What are the risks and rewards of providing data-driven recommendations quickly, but with 80% confidence, versus more slowly, with 95% confidence? When do we need 99% confidence, and how long would that analytic effort take? How much should these tradeoff decisions depend on the potential impact? Share your preference in the poll, and perspective in the comments below. And reach out directly to me, or visit CDAO Partners LLC, to transform your data into revenue and customer growth. #AnalyticsForImpact, #decisionmaking , #tradeoffs

Technology-First Approach Have you ever been in this situation?  You have implemented the latest technology, a solution guaranteed to be faster, cheaper and better.  And then no one uses it. CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, CDAOs and GMs reach out to me often with this challenge.  Their teams bought or licensed a new technology or SAAS solution, or spent time and resources building a master data environment, but they have not extracted any value from that investment. They fell into a common trap - taking a technology-first approach to solving a business problem.  Instead, I work with them to define their most valuable use cases. What business problems are you trying to solve?  How will your business stakeholders use this data or solution to inform a decision or take an action? In other words, we take a business-first approach.  In most cases, we’re able to execute relatively quick and inexpensive changes to the technology to begin extracting immediate value.  Technology is a means to the end, not the end in itself. Congrats to the Bayesians who held out to update their prediction with new information. I'd say "no impact" probability has jumped well above our 19% vote. The OpenAI board changes and (likely) upcoming governance changes shouldn't affect day-to-day operations and the ongoing LLM and GPT development pipelines. If anything, the changes over the last 24 hours may accelerate development and commercialization. This may have been the best possible outcome, as long as Sam Altman learns from this situation to communicate with the board more transparently, the board learns how to communicate publicly more effectively, and OpenAI maintains its culture of healthy AGI tension between the "saviors" and the "doomsdayers."
