Always exciting to have our work featured in the local news! KTXL FOX40 News was recently on site at River Bend Park where crews are implementing cbec’s designs to restore it to better salmonid spawning and rearing conditions. On August 30th, we completed the in-water construction phase of the Rose Bar project. This project enhanced two spawning riffles in the lower Yuba River with appropriately sized spawning gravel. These riffles are in one of the last locations where salmon spawning can occur before Englebright Dam and the end of the anadromous reach of river. This project took a lot of coordinated effort, and we're thrilled with the result and can't wait to see salmon spawning here in the next couple weeks. Danielle Conway, SYRCL's Fisheries Restoration Program Manager was even successful catching a rainbow just below the upstream riffle while they were working on the downstream riffle. Take a moment to check out the Bureau of Reclamation's excellent write up and gallery on the 2024 collaborative contribution to the "Lower American River Salmonid Habitat Enhancement Program." This year the project team revisited the 2013 River Bend site to restore it to conditions better suited for salmonid spawning and rearing. 🌊 Construction is underway at River Bend! We’re deepening and reconnecting a 1,600-foot side channel to restore access to over 3 acres of rearing habitat for young salmon and steelhead. Vital areas like this help our native fish hide from predators, find food, and grow before they eventually migrate to the ocean. A HUGE thank you to Water Forum members and our partners who make this project possible: Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Sacramento County, Sacramento County Parks, City of Sacramento, and SAFCA.
