2024 is an exciting time to be a part of the manufactured housing industry. To get more clarity around the current industry buzz, we caught up with President and CEO of Cavco Industries, Bill Boor at the 2024 Innovative Housing Showcase to ask him why manufactured housing might be the hiding-in-plain-sight solution for people searching for affordable housing in today's market. Will we start to see a boom in manufactured housing as traditional builds continue to price out the middle class? We'd love to hear your thoughts! #affordablehousing #manufacturedhousing #housing #innovativehousingshowcase #construction

Here’s an important step toward affordable housing availability! The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) has called for decisive action to address and remove discriminatory zoning mandates that exclude affordable, HUD-regulated manufactured housing from many communities. It’s one of the principal reasons housing remains unaffordable and unavailable for so many. The President and CEO of MHARR has urged the acting HUD Secretary to Affirmatively Further Fair Housing under the federal Fair Housing Act, which would invalidate and overturn discriminatory local zoning mandates and zoning edicts. It's a news story worth following if you want to see actionable solutions to address today’s affordable housing crisis. Let’s get more people and families into the homes and communities of their choosing. #affordablehousing #manufacturedhousing #manufacturing #construction https://lnkd.in/g7PZS6M3

Manorwood Homes, a Cavco company, has partnered with Habitat for Humanity International to build modular homes for deserving families. These factory-built modular homes are constructed to high quality standards in less time than traditional stick-built homes. This innovative approach to working smarter, not harder, is the perfect way to expand Habitat's impact in the communities it serves. “It’s been our absolute pleasure to build our relationship with Manorwood Homes (Cavco),” said Maureen Lashlee, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, New York. “At a time when America is experiencing a housing crisis, Manorwood Homes has helped us grow from building one house every two years to building five houses in one year.” Looking ahead, Manorwood Homes and Habitat for Humanity are gearing up for several new projects. In Ulster County, they will break ground on a 10-lot subdivision this fall, featuring eight Manorwood modular homes and two stick-built homes. Dutchess County has another ranch home on order, with groundbreaking for a five-lot subdivision planned for spring. Similar plans are underway in Monroe, Steuben and Orange counties. With Manorwood’s homebuilding expertise and Habitat for Humanity’s reach, this partnership has a bright future of providing quality homes to families that need them and making a significant contribution to combatting the affordable housing crisis. #modularhousing #manufacturing #construction #community #positivity #givingback

Cavco Industries partners with manufactured home community operators like UMH Properties, Inc. to help provide affordable housing options across the country. Recently, we partnered with UMH to bring the first HUD-approved Duplex to the National Mall in DC. While we were there, we got a few minutes to talk with the President and Founder of UMH, Sam Landy. He was able to share some information about his communities as well as shed some light on the zoning challenges manufactured home builders have been dealing with since the industry's beginnings. #manufacturedhousing #umhproperties #affordablehousing #zoning #construction

During the recent Innovative Housing Showcase, more than 5,000 people visited the two HUD Code manufactured home duplexes on display. UMH Properties, Inc. coordinated with Cavco Industries, Inc. and Champion Home Builders, Inc. to display these manufactured homes on the National Mall. MHI was a co-presenter of the event.   Members of Congress and their staff members, administration and agency staff from across the government, and the public toured the homes during the showcase. In addition, hundreds participated in the programming that coincided with the showcase, which featured a 90-minute segment about manufactured housing. With less than two weeks left, this is your friendly reminder that June is National Safety Month! Created almost 30 years ago by the National Safety Council, this annual observance helps boost safety awareness by highlighting the main causes of preventable injuries and deaths at home and in the workplace. More than two million nonfatal workplace injuries occur each year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In higher-risk industries like construction and manufacturing, as many as 600,000 workplace injuries/illnesses occur annually. These numbers are concrete evidence of the importance of safety awareness. For Cavco, safety is a daily focus and a core ONE Cavco principle of “Being safe without exception.” We believe we have a moral and ethical obligation to each other to make sure we work safely and ensure everyone goes home in the same condition they came to work. That’s why our Safety Now program, safety training and constant safety reviews are part of our daily routine. Every day, safety must be at the forefront of our minds and actions. Since Cavco’s Safety Now program began in 2020, safety numbers across the country have dramatically improved. From 2022 on, we have consistently beat industry standards for Total Recordable Injury Rates (TRIRs). These numbers have continued to drop as our team members on the factory floor work safer, smarter and more effectively. We are constantly working to improve safety. Last year, we focused on Weekly Saw Audits and our Monthly Departmental Safety Observation Reports (SORs), in addition to our collective ongoing Safety Now efforts. Major plant redesigns and equipment updates have created safer and more effective workflows with cutting-edge machinery that is more efficient, ergonomic and safer to use. But all the safety training, upgraded equipment and enhanced workflows only work if our team members keep safety at the front of their mind. Every minute of every day - and our safety numbers prove they do. Thank you to our Cavco team members for your continued focus on working safer every day and, during this National Safety Month, let’s continue our efforts to make our factory floors the safest in the industry. Don’t cut corners and do the right thing every time. #safety #nationalsafetymonth #construction #manufacturing

In order to make affordable housing such as manufactured homes more readily available for Americans across the country, we have to start paying attention to local zoning codes and the role they play in what can and can't be built in urban areas. Most of the changes in zoning happens at a local level and require vocal, hands-on involvement from people who want to see more affordable housing available in their own communities. The biggest question that we get asked around zoning, and that we asked ourselves is, "Where do we start?" The answer is the National Zoning Atlas (NZA). The NZA aims to digitize, demystify and democratize information currently hidden within ~30,000 U.S. zoning codes. This includes pushing back on the "Not In My Backyard" zoning restrictions that have kept manufactured housing out of urban areas that desperately need more housing inventory. Recently, we had the opportunity to speak to the founder and director of the NZA, Sara C. Bronin, after her panel at the 2024 Innovative Housing Showcase in Washington DC to learn more about the Atlas and how it helps get easy-to-use information into the hands of people fighting for change. If you weren’t able to attend the 2024 Innovative Housing Showcase, we had our social team on the ground capturing footage and having incredible conversations with the attendees, policy makers, our partners UMH Properties, Inc., and our very own President and CEO, Bill Boor. Check out our POV on the event and take a tour through the nation’s first HUD-approved duplex model. Huge shout out and thanks to Jim Trepinski and his team at Fleetwood Rockymount for building this amazing home and getting it set up beautifully on the National Mall. Big things are happening in the world of affordable housing and we can’t wait to see what’s next! #affordablehousing #innovation #innovativehousingshowcase #manufacturedhousing #hud
