This week, for thousands of Catholics who live in the United States, all roads lead to #Indianapolis. As the first full day of the 10th #NationalEucharisticCongress unfolds, we take a minute to reflect on two things said yesterday, during the opening of the Congress in the Lucas Oil Stadium. Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the papal nuncio to the U.S., and a member of our Board of Directors, was the night’s keynote speaker. He opened with the reflection that “perhaps our main prayer for this Eucharistic congress should be this: that we as a church may grow in our unity so that we become more fruitful in our mission.” Bishop Andrew H. Cozzens of Crookston, Minnesota — the driving episcopal force behind the congress, said: "Lord, we wanted to give you the first words of our National Eucharistic Congress." As he said, tens of thousands of Catholics have gathered this week- and many pilgrimaged across the United States for the past 61 days- because they want to be changed into “missionary disciples, people filled with the joy of the Gospel, people so grateful for the salvation you purchased for us.” He prayed for deeper conversion for individuals, peace in wartorn countries, those affected by abuse, and unity in both the country and the church, before inviting those present to, in silence, share their own intentions. “Lord, we have come here because we want a revival, a Eucharistic revival, and we want every Catholic to realize that you are alive in the Eucharist, and to encounter your love,” he said. “And Lord, we know that this revival, it has to begin with us.” How do we take these words and remember that too many around the world have yet to experience the joy of the Gospel? Being missionary disciples is a call all baptized share. At The Pontifical Mission Societies we are honored to provide the material and spiritual support for the thousands of missionaries who are sharing that joy in over 1,150 territories where the Good News is only now being embraced, where Christ is being ignored and shunned, and where those who believe in Him are persecuted for their faith. Thank you for helping us in this mission! To know more: www.onefamilyinmission.org

It’s going to take me a while to unpack all the blessings that have unfolded for me recently. Never in my life have so many awards come in such a short span of time - in one seven-day span I took home an Emmy Award, the Cardinal John P. Foley Award, three Telly Awards, the Catholic Media Association’s Videographer of the Year Award, and even more. Our diocesan communications office won 18 awards (6 of which were first-place honors) at the annual CMC Conference in Atlanta, a record for us in only our second year of entering! We never get into this field solely for the sake of winning awards, because if so it would be the most depressing job ever! I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve entered far more contests than I’ve ever actually won. So when a time like this past week comes along, it can be a lot to take in! On one hand it’s the fulfillment of a lot of dreams and ambitions, but on the other hand it’s a challenge to strive even higher. My bishop has a great way of keeping me humble and grounded - when I first saw him after the Catholic Media Conference, one of the first things he said to me was “Do you think there maybe weren’t a ton of entries in these categories?” 🤣 I love it!! Because there are so many people to lift us up and offer their congratulations - and trust me, I had SO much affirmation at the CMA Conference (it was truly a memory I’ll keep forever!). But the work isn’t done. This isn’t the pinnacle or the end of the road. There will always be more stories that deserve, and NEED, to be told. And I am just an instrument of the Holy Spirit who tries (and frequently fails) to be docile to the Lord’s will in my life. It is, ultimately, His story to be told, after all. But we can be cooperators in that story by using our unique gifts and talents to help tell it in ways that speak to our particular day and age, our “HisStory,” so to speak. Thank you to the Catholic Media Association, NATAS - Michigan Chapter, and to every individual who has given me affirmations in the past few weeks that what we do matters, and that it touches people’s hearts. To ever greater heights!

Grateful to the judges for the recognition of my hard work, talent and dedication in the category of "Editor of the Year" in my role at ONE magazine. Grateful for the opportunity to report on the Eastern churches -- so often in the periphery and on the front line at the same time -- and on their heroic witness. Grateful to work with a fabulously talented team at CNEWA. Grateful for the intelligent, talented and dedicated journalists and photojournalists with whom I collaborate around the world. You do the hard and courageous work of bringing back compelling stories from the field, that give voice to those who are often voiceless, and that challenge and inspire our readers. It was an honor to be recognized along with so many hard-working and talented journalists and media professionals in the U.S. and Canada at the Catholic Media Association conference in mid-June. Congratulations to all the award recipients!

Hi friends! I am still in search of an experienced journalist for our writer job at Northwest Catholic. This person will mainly report and write -- tell the stories of Catholics in our archdiocese, cover news events, keep informed of things happening in the region -- along with proofreading and website posting. He or she will work closely with me to make the magazine and website successful and support the overall communications team of the archdiocese. The person retiring from this role was a unicorn: A Catholic with decades of stellar work in secular journalism. I know I won't find another like her, but I'm trying! #journalismjobs #catholicjobs #reporter Catholic Media Association

An excellent webinar from Paulist Fathers Rev. Ricky Manalo, CSP, Ph.D. I had the blessing & privilege to listen to Fr. Ricky's presentation, and his knowledge on the subject is incredibly insightful & thought-provoking, especially if you are new to AI or have hesitations about AI. I highly recommend it!

Fun to see my byline on the Vatican News website again, the first time I can recall since Andrew Summerson and I moved back from Rome in 2015. Those were good times at Vatican Radio. I can't believe it's been nine years already since we moved back! Time sure does fly! This article reports on "Conflict, Crisis and Hope: Eastern Catholics in the World's Hotspots," a 75-minute panel CNEWA organized at this year's Catholic Media Association conference to underline ONE magazine's 50th anniversary.
