Our work at Chamber with passkeys and applied cryptography combined with Casa’s unparalleled expertise in Bitcoin security and self-custody made this possible. A single $30 piece of hardware that is incredibly easy to use can now make your Apple, Google, Cloudflare and other accounts unphishable *and* self-custody your bitcoin. When we first started the Content Authenticity Initiative at Adobe in 2019, we were looking ahead to a world where deepfakes would become indistinguishable from reality: cryptographic signatures bound to the content gave us a chance to re-establish what is real. Those same advances in AI are expanding the attack surfaces for bad actors. We are all familiar with phishing scams like the classic Nigerian prince emails from years ago, but we are woefully unprepared for highly targeted spear phishing that uses generative AI to perfectly replicate the voice and tone of our friends and family. Here again cryptographic signatures offer a solution, this time in the form of passkeys. Hardware-bound passkeys on a Yubikey ensure you cannot be tricked into giving away your credentials to a phishing site. When not in use, you can throw it in your safe and rest assured no one else can gain access to your accounts or digital assets. Incredible work by the Casa team bringing this feature to the world.
