"I wrote this in a green room at The Carolina Theatre in Durham. I had a great day walking around (really nice town), and I was feeling hopeful...I wanted it to feel like one of those days when you’re getting a lot of errands done. Maybe you’re walking, and your legs feel good. You feel like you could walk forever." - Donovan Woods Woods performed at the Carolina Theatre as the opening act for Matt Nathanson in 2022. His new single, "116 West Main, Durham, NC" was inspired by Letters Bookshop, and crafted in our green room. Listen on Spotify, Apple Music, or watch the official lyric video on YouTube. We want to thank everyone who joined us for a magical night of fundraising at the Dancing With The Carolina Stars event on May 21! We are still buzzing from the spectacular performances, laughs, and unforgettable moments on the stage, including a wonderful welcome from the Mayor of Durham, Leonardo Williams. We are so grateful to Farad Ali, Linda Shropshire, Jason Peace, Rory Gillis, and Pilar Rocha-Goldberg for their participation and enthusiastic performances. Our appreciation extends to the professional dancers, musicians, artists, production crew, volunteers, board of trustees, and staff for all their hard work and dedication in planning the event and bringing it to life. The Carolina Theatre is a truly special place because of all the people in the community who pour their hearts and souls into every facet of each show, program, and experience here. Besides being an enchantingly fun night for all of us watching, the event also raised an incredible amount to support the next year of programming at the theater, including Center Stage: The Wavemakers Series, the Arts Discovery Educational Series, the Family Saturday Series, the OUTSOUTH Queer Film Festival, and of course all of our exclusive self-produced shows offered throughout the year. In the live auction alone, we raised an astonishing $64,650 thanks to your support (and excellent bidding strategies)! Stay tuned for an announcement about the total amount raised, and if you would like to donate to help us reach our goal of $150,000, we would be grateful for your gift of any amount. https://lnkd.in/gceZZRih. Lastly, thank you to HuthPhoto, LLC for capturing all the fun memories from the night’s mingling and dancing hijinks. Follow us on our social media channels to see more photos coming soon as we relive this wonderful night!

Yesterday, we hosted a celebration of the 10th Anniversary of our Confronting Change exhibit, which shares the story of the Durhamites who worked to desegregate the Carolina Theatre. Thank you to the original protestors who participated in a panel discussion about their experiences, our staff, and the Civil Rights Committee for their part in organizing the event and preserving this important history. 📸:HuthPhoto, LLC
