As of July 2025, The Carmel Hill Fund is transitioning to focus on supporting youth growing up in New York City through literacy and mental health initiatives in the city where our founder and benefactor, Bill Ruane, launched his philanthropic journey nearly 40 years ago. Our mission is to support young people, especially those growing up in vulnerable circumstances, to become voracious readers and also have the skills, relationships, nurturing environments, and supports to become emotionally thriving adults. This evolution will include sunsetting The Carmel Hill Fund Education Program, our direct service Independent Reading program, and CHF will transition to become a grantmaking-only organization. As part of this new organizational shift, we’ve launched searches for three new colleagues to join our team: ○       Grants Manager ○       Program Officer, Adolescent Mental Health ○       Program Officer, Youth Literacy Learn more at the https://lnkd.in/efDKmerk

We are excited to announce that Kate Garroway recently joined our team as Chief Operating Officer. In this new position, Kate plays a key leadership role in reimagining how The Carmel Hill Fund can become an innovative, state-of-the-art operation that maximizes its financial, talent, and other resources, in alignment with the organization’s mission and goals, to help develop voracious readers and support adolescent mental health. Kate brings over 20 years of experience building and leading strategic operations functions within mission-driven environments. Most recently, she was a Managing Director in BDO USA's Nonprofit and Grantmaker Advisory Services practice (previously BDO FMA) where she worked with 150 nonprofits and foundations over 11 years helping leaders develop finance and operations infrastructure to support their current needs and future aspirations. Gratitude to Bridge Partners - Executive Search for leading this successful search with a talented candidate pool.
