Meet our intern, Nazeeya Chowdhury ✨ #WeAreCAPAL My name is Nazeeya Chowdhury, I am a recent graduate of Virginia Tech, where I majored in Animal and Poultry Sciences and minored in Public Health. I am a huge animal lover and spend much of my time working at the vets office when I’m not in school! During my free time I enjoy dancing or just hanging out with my friends watching movies or at a cafe. I’m so excited to work with CAPAL this summer and working with NRCS so far has been incredible. I’m amazed to see how much work they put into to protect our natural resources. Meet our intern, Tehani Chandrasena Perera ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Tehani is a rising senior at Mount Holyoke College. She was born in Los Angeles California, and grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Tehani is passionate about actively working towards learning deeper of the different ways in which gender equality could be achieved through access to education and health, environmental sustainability, and human rights. Post-degree, she hopes to learn more about feminist health politics, as well as the ways in which gender and climate change intersect. In her free time, she loves to dance, listen to music, take pictures on her digi cam, travel and try out new restaurants! Meet our intern, Nichole Espineli ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Nichole Espineli is a 2022 DSIP alum and now one of the DSIP Graduate Assistants. Nichole received her B.A. in Health and Society from Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin as a McNair Scholar in May 2023. She is now pursuing her Masters of Science in Public Health (MSPH) in Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Nichole is interested in working in a nonprofit organization and policies that aim to change the food system into a more equitable and sustainable food system for AANHPI. Meet our scholar, Jenny L. ✨ #WeAreCAPAL Jenny Lee (she/her) is a rising senior at Yale University double majoring in Economics and Ethnicity, Race & Migration, with a concentration in Asian American feminist ethics of care. Informed by her background as a 1.5-generation Korean American from Seattle, Washington, her work has brought her to the Asian American Cultural Center and Office of Gender and Campus Culture at Yale, as well as Reproductive Freedom for All (NARAL) and OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates. This summer, she is an intern at the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI). She is passionate about public health advocacy, health policy, and reproductive rights, particularly within undeserved communities. On campus, Marlena is actively involved in the Asian Pacific Student Alliance (APSA) and serves as the Vice President of the Transfer Student Outreach Alliance (TSOA). Outside of academics, Marlena loves to play Animal Crossing, drink copious amounts of coffee, and make people laugh.
