Funders can unintentionally limit the impact of nonprofits by funding them to serve only a specific group or set of activities. Tackling root causes requires a different, more flexible approach. Beth Huang, program officer at the Tides Foundation, shares how investing in community organizing and giving organizations flexibility to shift to new strategies are key.

Our Candid community has grown to 1,600 locations in 2024 from 400 partners in 2023! This program offers our tools for free at libraries and locations open to the public across the county - find one near you here: candid.org/find-us We have a dream team supporting our community partners and this growth would not be possible without Xeena Blackwell, Samantha Ryder, Diamond Rodriguez, Carla Norris, and Stef Tierney 🌟 I'm thrilled to work with libraries, nonprofits, and foundations on this program. Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about access for your community! How many nonprofit profiles are listed on Candid? We asked our staff and here is what they said. All these answers are technically correct! 90,000 is the number of claimed nonprofit profiles on Candid (or at least it was when the video was recorded, now we are over 100k) 1.8 million is the total number of nonprofit organizations that have a profile on Candid, including claimed and unclaimed. And finally, both 1.5 and 1.4 million are correct if you’re only taking into account 501(c)(3) public charities. There total is 1,488,028 501, which could be rounded down to 1.4 million or up to 1.5 million.
