Thank you ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership for recognizing CMI as a 2024 #PowerOfAssociations Award winner! Our #MillionCans Recycling Contest received the Gold Award, one of the top honors! This recognition would not be possible without the support of our Can Manufacturers Institute members, Recycling is like Magic!, and the more than 900 students and teachers who pitched in to help recycle empty aluminum beverage cans! The Can Manufacturers Institute is the national trade association of the can manufacturing industry and its suppliers.
About us
The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) is the trade association of the metal and composite can manufacturing industry and its suppliers in the United States. The association received its charter in 1938, then representing only 39 manufacturers and suppliers of goods and services to the industry. CMI members account for over 81% of annual domestic production of 133 billion cans; together they employ 22,000 people with plants in 33 states, Puerto Rico and American Samoa. CMI's mission, simply stated, is to foster the prosperity of the industry and bring value to its members in a cost effective way. We do this by promoting the can and communicating its many benefits to our customers, consumers, the media, and trade analysts. CMI assumes many roles to meet the industry's needs. On both the national and state level, CMI actively participates in the exchange of ideas influencing legislative, regulatory and administrative policies of interest to can makers. CMI has also conducted and sponsored several innovative studies that led to promotional campaigns seeking larger market share for the can. CMI provides a statistical service by publishing monthly and annual shipment reports by product and marketing category and serves as the industry's technical forum.

It was great to meet Rep. Andrea Salinas and Rep. Josh Harder during the summer growing season! From a Pacific Coast Producers canned cherry facility in Oregon to a peach orchard in California, America’s farmers and food producers are working hard to pick and pack essential produce. American consumers overwhelmingly seek to purchase American grown and packaged foods. They also deserve the right to easily know whether their canned foods come from the United States.

Please welcome the latest can capture robot! LRS has installed EverestLabs.AI #RecycleOS technology. This program is supported by funding from two CMI members: Ardagh Metal Packaging and Crown Holdings, Inc. This leased robot will boost revenue and efficiency for LRS by capturing used beverage cans at its material recovery facility (MRF) that otherwise would have been missorted. MRFs are where single-stream recyclables are sorted into commodities for sale to recyclers. The robot assists in LRS maintaining quality control for more than 350,000 pounds of recycled aluminum each month, approximately 12 million aluminum beverage cans! The lease program is the latest in a several-year CMI effort to demonstrate the additional revenue for the recycling system through capturing missorted used beverage cans: https://lnkd.in/e6UFsq3U

CMI is calling on President Biden and Congress to protect U.S. steel can makers and canned food companies from China’s subsidized and unfairly priced can components and canned food imports. At risk are tens of thousands of American manufacturing jobs. Three actions are required to protect U.S. steel can manufacturing, canned food companies and, ultimately, the consumer. https://lnkd.in/eyxF6893
