Our Day Center offers a hot meal, daily shower, clean clothes, mail, and other important services to the Miami-Dade County’s homeless community. This “one-stop help center” provides Camillus House staff with a chance to build trust with individuals still living on the street. Day Center clients who are ready can easily transition into Camillus programs such as housing, employment, treatment, and other services focused on profound, long-term change. The Day Center, the only program of its kind in Miami-Dade County, is “an oasis for those without a roof over their heads,” according to the Miami Herald. #miami #southflorida #camilluscares #community #givingback #homelessness #makingadifference #nonprofit #doinggood #miaminonprofit

According to the 2024 Acorns Money Matters Report™, one in four Americans fear homelessness amid rising living costs and global uncertainties. Gender, location, and income disparities shape financial outlooks, with lower-income individuals and urban residents feeling the strain most. Additionally, Gen Z and millennials are nearly three times more likely to fear their financial situation could lead to homelessness as compared to older respondents. This stark reality highlights the urgent need for comprehensive solutions to address the pressing issue of homelessness plaguing communities across the nation. Camillus House recognizes that combatting homelessness goes beyond simply providing temporary shelter or meals. Homelessness is often intertwined with complex factors such as poverty, mental health issues, substance abuse, lack of affordable housing, and systemic inequalities which create a cycle that is difficult to break without a holistic approach. By offering a range of services including healthcare, addiction treatment, job training, and permanent supportive housing, Camillus House aims to address the root causes of homelessness and provide individuals with the support they need to rebuild their lives. Nationally, 28% of LGBTQ youth report experiencing homelessness or housing instability at some point in their lives — and those who do are two to four times more likely to experience depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal ideation compared to those with stable housing. There are vital champions in our community who are supporting LGBTQ youth housing in South Florida, and this year, we're focusing grantmaking from the LGBTQ Equity Fund on housing for at-risk LGBTQ youth. Twelve local nonprofit partners will receive $350,000 in grants to help create safe, supportive environments for LGBTQ youth. To these nonprofits, thank you for the important work that you do, and thank you for helping to build a Greater Miami where everyone can thrive. https://sflgbtqequity.org/ Camillus House LOTUS HOUSE WOMEN'S SHELTER Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services, Inc.
