🧨”Fire in the hole!”💥 Take a look back at a video from Caltrans Blasting crews on Hwy 97. Crews travel throughout the state to reduce large boulders and secure unstable slopes to reopen highways and make them safe for the traveling public as well as our own Maintenance, Construction and Geotechnical crews. Crews attend annual training in South Lake Tahoe to stay current on existing regulations, safety policies, blasting methods, and the latest equipment, so they can continue to work safely and to the best of their ability. Blasting is mostly an unheard-of practice within the department but is an extremely vital part of what Caltrans does to keep the state highway system open. It is just another example of the department’s efficiency; an internal program that trains and develops specialists ready to face any challenge in maintaining our highways and infrastructure throughout the state of California. Join us for an exclusive look at dynamic photo/video footage and learn how Caltrans blasting crews use explosives to blast massive boulders and ensure the safety of our highways. Hear from the blasting specialists about their career journeys and their explosives experience! Register Now! 🦋 California Wildlife Reconnected is catalyzing wildlife crossing projects throughout the state. Helping restore ecosystems and allowing wildlife to thrive for generations to come. 📽️Please take a moment to view this fantastic video of the monumental initiative that involves a team of conservation experts who took an epic road trip across California featuring dedicated Caltrans teams. Caltrans Director Tony Tavares said, "Caltrans understands the delicate balance that must be struck between the movement of people and goods throughout our vast state and the movement of all fish and wildlife. The state highway connects us to various natural phenomena, such as the Sierra Nevada, the high desert, the coastal redwoods, and the Pacific Ocean. However, it can also create barriers for native species that live within those same places. That's why we are committed to researching, restoring, and renovating passageways throughout the state. We have already delivered more than 20 wildlife under-crossings, and we are investing in over-structures that assist larger animal populations. Caltrans engineers, planners, and scientists are working together every day to provide a safer, more equitable, and more sustainable transportation system for all animals that call California home." 🐾To learn more, visit: wildlifecrossingfund.org #Caltrans #CoExistence #WildlifeCrossings #SaveLaCougars #CaliforniaWildlifeReconnected Beth Pratt, Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom
