Let's welcome Max Martinez to CPCA as our Government Affairs Assistant! Max Martinez was born in San Mateo and raised in Sacramento where he attended Christian Brothers High School. He is currently entering his fourth year at California State University, Chico, pursuing studies in Political Science and Communication Studies. Previously, Max was a member of the baseball team at the University of Kansas, where he achieved recognition on the honor roll. Max has experience working a variety of roles in the state capitol community such as in the public affairs department of Cal Expo and the State Fair. Welcome to the team Max! #WelcometoCPCA

About us
Mission: The mission of the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) is to lead and position community clinics, health centers, and networks through advocacy, education and services as key players in the health care delivery system to improve the health status of their communities. In 1994, CPCA was formed and has become the statewide leader and recognized voice representing the interests of California community clinics and health centers and their patients. CPCA represents more than 1,380 not-for-profit Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Regional Clinic Associations who provide comprehensive, quality health care services, particularly for low-income, uninsured and underserved Californians, who might otherwise not have access to health care. CPCA's diverse membership includes community and free clinics, federally funded and federally designated clinics, rural and urban clinics, large and small clinic corporations and clinics dedicated to special needs and special populations. CPCA is designated by the Federal Bureau of Primary Health Care as the state primary care association and receives federal program support to develop and enhance services for member health centers.

In 2005, CPCA co-sponsored two significant bills aimed at improving healthcare access and provider reimbursement in California: SB 299 (Chesbro): This bill permitted dentists licensed in other states to practice dentistry in California, provided they spent their first two years working at a Community Health Center (CHC). SB 131 (Chesbro): This bill extended the time for filing for scope of service rate change requests from 90 days to 150 days and authorized an optional fee-for-service reimbursement carve-out for inpatient obstetrical and cardiology services. #TimelineTuesday #CPCA #SB299 #SB131
