  • Thank you again to President Biden and our congressional champions Senator Padilla, Representative John Garamendi, Representative Mike Thompson, and Senator Butler. We were incredibly honored to have CNPS Executive Director Jun Bando represent CNPS at the White House for yesterday's signing ceremony to expand Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. #MolokLuyuk is now permanently protected, after decades of advocacy. We are so grateful to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and the incredible partners we've had the privilege to work with. California's national monument campaigns capture the best in what modern conservation can offer: opportunities for Tribal leadership, the protection of California's remarkable biodiversity, partnership across diverse groups, and the opportunity for everyone, whoever you are, to connect with nature. https://lnkd.in/gdeTc_M6

  • Have you ever signed a petition and wondered if it really does anything? 🤔 We’re here to tell you IT MATTERS. Today, President Joe Biden used the Antiquities Act to protect Molok Luyuk by adding it to Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument!!! 🙌🏾 🙌🏽 🙌🏻 This historic action honors the request of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation to safeguard this sacred Tribal land. For years, CNPS and a coalition of advocates have been asking you to contact your lawmakers in support and sign petitions to protect this cradle of biodiversity. More than 175,000 people added their names to the effort, and today Molok Luyuk is permanently protected for the dozens of rare native plants, blue oak woodlands, McNab cypress (Hesperocyparis macnabiana), and many wildlife that call it home. And it’s also protected for you—because national monuments are for everyone. This is truly a cause for celebration. 🌎 🎊 🎉 Many thanks go to President Joe Biden, the advocates in the Biden Administration, and Molok Luyuk’s congressional champions: Senator Alex Padilla, Congressman John Garamendi , Congressman Mike Thompson, Senator Laphonza Butler, and the late Senator Dianne Feinstein. As we celebrate the news, we want to take a moment to thank the people who make this possible. Significant support came from a coalition of funders, including Resources Legacy Fund, Wyss Foundation, and other anonymous donors.
