Improving California's health care system, so it works for all Californians.
About us
The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) is dedicated to advancing meaningful, measurable improvements in the way the health care delivery system provides care to the people of California, particularly those with low incomes and those whose needs are not well served by the status quo. We work to ensure that people have access to the care they need, when they need it, at a price they can afford. CHCF informs policymakers and industry leaders, invests in ideas and innovations, and connects with changemakers to create a more responsive, patient-centered health care system. "Simply put, voting is good for your health, which is why more and more doctors and health care organizations are encouraging their patients to do it." ♦️ Voters rate their health as better than non-voters, even after accounting for socioeconomic and demographic variables. ♦️ Communities with higher voter turnout have more desirable public health outcomes. ♦️ Voting has been linked to improved mental health, increased social connections, and greater community investment in public health resources. On The CHCF Blog — why CHCF President & CEO Sandra R. Hernández, M.D. recommends voting: https://lnkd.in/ghQWBGiX

California has 30 practicing midwives per 10,000 births, which is lower than the national average. The midwife workforce also lacks diversity, with significant underrepresentation of Latino/x and Black midwives. Although most midwives report being satisfied with their careers, many plan to take breaks, leave the profession, retire, or reduce their client load in the next five years. https://lnkd.in/gANGgAGH #Midwifery #HealthEquity #BirthEquity #HealthWorkforce

When the 2017 Napa-Sonoma wildfires struck, promotoras became crucial lifelines for Latino/x families who might have fallen through the cracks of disaster relief. These Spanish-speaking community health workers didn't just provide services – they brought understanding and cultural connection to communities in crisis. Now, the Promotora Cooperative Initiative is transforming these vital roles into sustainable careers. At CHCF, we know that investing in community health workers strengthens our entire health care safety net. See more on The CHCF Blog: https://lnkd.in/gbbSKC7K #HealthEquity #CommunityHealth
