While June 21 is the official start of summer and Memorial Day is the traditional start, that's just how we humans look at it. Wildlife don't have a written calendar and for them summer is in full swing at the Preserve. Our Seasonal Wildlife Walk: Summer Edition is coming up. We will take a mindful stroll around the preserve, using sight, sound, smell, and feelings to absorb what summertime in the Golden State has to offer. For about 3 hours we will traverse 2.5 miles of wetland, riparian, grassland, and oak savannah habitats observing wild animals and plants, and appreciating the differences in summer compared to other seasons. Our winter residents and spring migrants have departed. We will say hello to summer breeders such as Western Kingbirds, Swainson's hawks, and at least 3 species of swallows. California ground squirrels, cottontails, jackrabbits, deer and all the birds are busy with their young. With luck we will observe wild families with new youngsters who call the Preserve home. Remember to wear appropriate clothing, bring water, snacks, and binoculars. Group size is limited, so please register at cachecreekconservancy dot org/seasonal-wildlife-series #lovecachecreek #wildlife #naturetours #yolocountyca #naturepreserves

You and your family can find out about the Cache Creek Nature Preserve at the Woodland Farmers Market on Saturday mornings this Summer and Fall 2024. We answer questions about the Nature Preserve and about local wildlife in general and about the other work the Conservancy does. We have educational games for kids and native plant seeds for the adults. The Farmers Market meets in front of the Woodland Public Library on First Street, between Court and North. It started May 11, 2024 and is open every Saturday through the middle of October (date uncertain due to weather) from 9 am to noon. #lovecachecreek #yolocountyca #naturepreserves #farmersmarkets #WoodlandCA
