"Wickedness, when you examine it, turns out to be the pursuit of some good in the wrong way. You can be good for the mere sake of goodness: you cannot be bad for the mere sake of badness. You can do a kind action when you are not feeling kind and when it gives you no pleasure, simply because kindness is right; but no one ever did a cruel action simply because cruelty is wrong—only because cruelty was pleasant or useful to him. In other words badness cannot succeed even in being bad in the same way in which goodness is good. Goodness is, so to speak, itself: badness is only spoiled goodness... Evil is a parasite, not an original thing." — C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

About us
Founded in 1976 in the legacy of C.S. Lewis, the Institute endeavors to develop disciples who will articulate, defend, live, and share their faith in Christ in personal and public life. Why the name C.S. Lewis Institute? The name was chosen because of Lewis' focus on core essentials of the faith that reach across denominational boundaries. He was also an outstanding example of a lay person who came to Christ and lived out his faith in a secular calling. As a major figure in 20th century Christianity, he has been able to communicate his faith in a profound way. What Others Say About Us: “The C.S. Lewis Institute is one of the nation’s premier catalysts of the Christian mind, offering the churches a rich diet of spiritual and intellectual nourishment. I am thrilled by its vision for the future.” ⏤ Alister McGrath, Director, Oxford Center for Evangelism and Apologetics “I am thankful for the C.S. Lewis Institute…especially for their conferences and Fellows Program. Each of these create helpful environments for spiritual formation and transformation, and I recommend them to you.” ⏤ Richard J. Foster, founder of RENOVARE

"As Christians we are tempted to make unnecessary concessions to those outside the Faith. We give in too much. Now, I don’t mean that we should run the risk of making a nuisance of ourselves by witnessing at improper times, but there comes a time when we must show that we disagree. We must show our Christian colours, if we are to be true to Jesus Christ. We cannot remain silent or concede everything away." — C.S. Lewis, “Cross-Examination” in God in the Dock

"From the beginning, sin is an offense against God. God himself pronounces the sentence of death (Gen. 2-3). This is scarcely surprising, since God is the source of all life, so if his image bearers spit in his face and insist on going their own way and becoming their own gods, they cut themselves off from their Maker, from the One who gives life. What is there, then, but death?" — D.A. Carson, Prophetic from the Center

"Corinth speaks to the lust for endless innovation that casually cuts a swath away from the practices and beliefs of other churches, while quietly side-stepping the careful instruction of the apostle... Always be suspicious of churches that proudly flaunt how different they are from what has gone before." — D.A. Carson, Prophetic from the Center
