C-BEN is revolutionizing how we design, experience, and measure learning throughout a lifetime.
About us
We believe learning should be measured by what you can do—the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that lay the foundation for your success—and for more than 10 years we have been guiding our expansive network of education leaders, employers, policymakers, and changemakers towards quality competency-based models and practices. The world is changing fast, and C-BEN is driving transformation in systems to match, changing not just how we design learning but also how we define it. Our network is where passion, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence combine to create a better path forward – because we deserve an approach to learning that works for everyone.

C-BEN is excited to announce that Theresa Gaffney has joined the C-BEN team as our Digital Engagement Manager. Theresa’s journey has included content management roles at organizations like TED Conferences, PlayStation Competition Center, and the Collegiate Starleague, where she led digital engagement initiatives that drove growth. As Head Coach of Esports at Messiah University, Theresa advocated for programming that helps the next generation of learners develop their marketable skills in the esports industry hands-on, while competing with their peers in-game. With a Master’s degree in History from Queens College, Theresa has also taught in diverse settings—from college-level English classes in Seoul, South Korea, to social media courses at Harrisburg University. This blend of teaching and tech experience gives her a unique perspective on the role of CBE in education and how to connect with audiences, no matter the platform. Please join us in welcoming Theresa to the C-BEN team!

Celebrating Growth and Innovation at University of Maine at Presque Isle! Under the leadership of C-BEN Board Member and UMPI President, Raymond Rice, UMPI has seen remarkable enrollment growth since 2020. This success is largely thanks to the YourPace program—an online, competency-based education (CBE) initiative designed to meet the needs of adult learners worldwide. As a C-BEN member, UMPI continues to break new ground in making higher education more flexible and accessible. Congratulations to the team at UMPI for their dedication to transforming the future of learning!
