Protein-DNA interactions regulate cellular processes such as DNA replication, repair, and gene expression. Many diseases attributed to dysfunctional cellular processes or signaling pathways are essentially failures of these interactions. However, there's a huge gap in our understanding: Of the over 245 million protein sequences published on UniProt, less than 1% are annotated with DNA-binding interactions. In recent years, AI has significantly advanced protein structure prediction. For SynBioBeta, I wrote about how it could also help us predict their interactions with DNA.

Revolutionizing Drug Discovery: AI's Role in Protein-DNA Interaction Prediction Artificial intelligence is transforming our understanding of protein-DNA interactions, a critical component in cellular processes such as DNA replication and gene expression. In this new SynBioBeta Insights article, Sachin Rawat explores how advancements in artificial intelligence, particularly through deep learning models like AlphaFold and RoseTTAFold, are revolutionizing the prediction of protein-DNA interactions, significantly impacting drug discovery and biotechnology. Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eh6d3QQg Sachin was able to catch up with Rory Kelleher, Global Head of Business Development at NVIDIA to discuss how these AI tools can predict protein structures from sequences, providing insights that were previously unattainable due to the limitations of experimental methods. Additionally, Sachin was able to chat with Lina Nilsson, SVP of Emerging Technologies at Recursion about how they are combining machine learning with drug discovery—the implications for which are profound. By predicting all possible interactions of a drug across the proteome, researchers can better identify off-target effects and improve the success rate of new therapies. Additionally, AI-driven models help in designing protein-based materials and synthetic gene circuits, pushing the boundaries of synthetic biology. As more protein structures become available, these AI tools will only become more accurate, driving innovations in biotechnology and personalized medicine. #ArtificialIntelligence #DrugDiscovery #Proteomics #Biotechnology #SyntheticBiology #DeepLearning #AIinHealthcare #Bioinformatics #Genomics #MachineLearning
