BuildTech partners Alexey Dubov and Roman Smolevskiy attended the Plug and Play Tech Center Summit last week! 🚀 The BuildTechVC team shared insights at the "Exploring the Future of Construction" workshop with Alice Leung of Brick & Mortar Ventures and Vivin Hegde of Zacua Ventures. It was a great conversation with some insights on topics such as getting pilots with small and large players in the industry, the future of prefab in light of Veev closing, and looking ahead to 2024 trends that include robotics, more pilots, and excitement. It was an honor to discuss industry trends and breakthroughs with other industry leaders. Special thanks to Plug and Play for the invitation. Excited for future collaborations in shaping construction's future! 👷🏼♂️🏗️ #BuildTechVC #ConstructionInnovation #PlugandPlay

#ConstructingTheFuture: How AI startups are disrupting the construction industry 🏗 🚧 Over the past few months, our team has taken a close look at dozens of early-stage AI startups in the construction world. More specifically, we looked at the different approaches AI is taking to help AEC professionals, and we wanted to share some insights from our findings. We've categorised these solutions based on their alignment with different stages of the construction cycle. 📐Architecture The advent of AI is bringing efficiency to pre-construction, ensuring that all stakeholders can create visions in harmony. Some of the startups we examined: ✅ ARK offers an AI-powered software solution that helps with building design, architectural analysis, and engineering plans. ✅ mbue provides AI-based quality control tools to help architecture, engineering, and construction firms achieve better results. ✅ Snaptrude provides a collaborative building design tool that helps design buildings faster by bringing project teams together. ✅ Drawer AI developed software that detects errors in construction drawings. This solution attempts to solve the problem that design errors cause 40% of construction problems. ✅ Pelles.ai creates optimal MEP designs from architectural floor plans using generative AI and path planning algorithms. 📒Design AI isn't just about numbers. It's about aesthetics. Startups in this category are primarily focused on giving interior designers the tools to create compelling home ideas for clients, combining functionality with beauty. ✅ Luccid, a B2B SaaS that helps businesses instantly design clients' dream homes with an AI co-pilot. ✅ Corbu, an AI design assistant. Our team is still evaluating companies in the following categories and will share more names in the next update. 🏗️ Construction This category includes startups that range from improving worker safety to simplifying documentation processes. 🏢 Post-construction Here, startups offer maintenance and sales support solutions. Some insights from our dive: ➡️ For startups targeting architects, a common challenge is ensuring that their AI models comply with local building codes. Addressing this aspect is critical to ensuring that the generated floor plans are creative and compliant. ➡️ Some design-stage startups are using AI to improve engagement with end users (e.g., homebuyers). This approach allows for better translation of user preferences to designers. In this way, AI tools in the design space improve the connection between homeowners and designers. ➡️ Notably, MENA and the U.S. lead the pack with the highest number of startups in this segment at 30% and 21%, respectively. This post is just our prologue. Given the immense potential of AI in the construction industry, we promise to keep shining a spotlight on promising startups in the space. Stay tuned for more ideas and startups! #RealTech #ConstructionTech #AI #VentureCapital #nextbigthing *Based on a sample of deals
