HolcimUS has been selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their EPD Accelerator Project. The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and our members continue to set new standards for sustainable construction.
BREAKING NEWS: Proud to have received a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for our EPD Accelerator Project. Like nutritional labels, EPDs detail the environmental impact of building products. This transparency helps set new standards for environmentally responsible construction materials, driving market demand for lower carbon construction materials. Congratulations to National Ready Mixed Concrete Association member Heidelberg Materials for being selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to automate EPD creation and ensure transparency on the carbon footprint of construction products.
How can we leverage digital solutions to accelerate the decarbonisation of our industry, enhance operational efficiency, and increase value for our customers? Those are core questions our digital teams across the globe are tackling every single day. One of their latest projects ticks all three boxes and has now been selected to receive up to $5 million in funding from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The project aims to introduce a cloud-based tool that uses AI to automate key steps in creating so-called Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). An EPD is a standardised declaration of a product’s lifecycle assessment that shows the product’s environmental impact. In the construction industry, they are central to ensuring transparency on, for example, the carbon footprint of a product. The tool, which will be deployed at concrete, cement, aggregates and asphalt facilities is supposed to enable a faster verification of the environmental impact resulting in an earlier market introduction of new products. 📰 Full details are available in our press release: https://lnkd.in/erC5GjZY

Build With Strength is proud to partner with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity and HolcimUS to construct the first Habitat for Humanity project using Holcim’s #ECOPact low-carbon #concrete! Learn more about the project below:
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association is incredibly proud to showcase a new groundbreaking project marking the first New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity home utilizing #ECOPact low-carbon concrete from HolcimUS. A part of the Build With Strength program, this concrete and ICF home is a brilliant example of building "towards the future" – using a combination of cost-effectiveness, energy efficiency, disaster resiliency and sustainable building for an area heavily affected by storms and floods. Being able to work with partners including BuildBlock ICFs, Auburn University Rural Studio, Insulating Concrete Form Manufacturers Association & more helps to share light on an alternative, better way of building to ensure our future homes are safe for incoming families, and last for many years to come. This build proudly features Holcim's ECOPact low-carbon concrete - a mix that delivers a 30% reduction in carbon while still delivering full strength concrete. Combined with BuildBlock ICFs strong walls for resiliency and long-lasting design, this home is an incredible feat of the concrete industry's drive in creating safe, affordable, and future-ready structures. Since 2014, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Members have reduced carbon emissions by 21% nationwide – one of Build With Strength's goals is to cut our emissions down to zero by 2050 and this project marks another brilliant milestone in getting closer to that goal. Thank you to all who were involved in this project and video production: Greg Sessa of HolcimUS, Brian Corder of BuildBlock ICFs, Marguerite Oestreicher and Bradley Holland of New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, Michael Philipps and Michael Wymant with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, Build With Strength, Auburn University Rural Studio, Habitat for Humanity International, Insulating Concrete Form Manufacturers Association, American Concrete Pumping Association, SMECO CONCRETE PUMPING LLC., Our Rental Pumps & more!
