About us
Aligned with the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and Green Deal transformation goals, the main objective of the B-TRUST project is to develop a transparent and inclusive governance model in order to overcome public hesitations and industry reluctance enabling the application of biotechnology to the bio-based and agri-food sector. More specifically, the aim of the project is to inform and create transparency related to consumer and environmental safety, to leverage engagement from citizens and other stakeholders, and to develop and exchange best practices.

A new report published by Green Alliance and commissioned by Good Food Institute Europe has shed light on a groundbreaking potential shift in the European food landscape. By embracing alternative proteins, we could see a remarkable reduction in food imports across 10 European countries by up to 75%. Not only that, but there's the potential to quadruple the amount of land dedicated to organic farming. 🌾🌍 This report highlights the immense opportunities that #biotechnology and innovation in food production can bring to our tables and our environment. 🚨New report!🚨Widespread adoption of alternative proteins could reduce reliance on food imports across 10 European countries by 75%, and quadruple the amount of land that is organically farmed. New report published by Green Alliance, commissioned by GFI Europe, explores the opportunities offered by alternative proteins based on modest or ambitious increases in consumption across 10 European countries. Key findings by country: 🇩🇪 In Germany, the percentage of land farmed organically could increase from 10% to 32% while also granting over 4 million hectares for restoring natural habitats, and increase land self-sufficiency from 55% to 81%. 🇩🇰 In Denmark, a high innovation scenario could boost food security to allow 90% of its food footprint to be located in Denmark, and enable 25% of farmland to be organic. 🇪🇸 In Spain, a high innovation scenario could allow full self-sufficiency in food production – supporting local producers – and enable the proportion of organic farmland to quadruple. 🇬🇧 In the UK, a high innovation scenario could boost food security to allow 90% of its food footprint to be located in the UK, and enable 25% of farmland to be organic. 🇫🇷 In France, a high innovation scenario could allow full self-sufficiency, and quadruple the proportion of farmed land that is organic. 🇮🇹 In Italy, a high innovation scenario could boost self-sufficiency, from 43% to 79%, and double the proportion of farmed land that is organic. 🇳🇱 In the Netherlands, a high innovation scenario could more than double self-sufficiency, quadruple the proportion of organically farmed land, although notably at present both of these figures are starting from very low current levels. 🇵🇱 In Poland, a high innovation scenario could facilitate full self-sufficiency, and increase the proportion of organically farmed land from 4% to 24%. 🇷🇴 In Romania, a high innovation scenario could facilitate full self-sufficiency, and increase the proportion of organically farmed land from 4% to a whopping 41%. 🇸🇪 In Sweden, a high innovation scenario could increase self-sufficiency from 50% to 87%, and double the proportion of organically farmed land.
