BGV'ers like to get dirty! Last week, a team of BGV volunteers pitched in at Sacramento Creek Ranch, near Alma in Park County, CO. The ranch is a 71-acre nature preserve, administered by the Mountain Area Land Trust (MALT). MALT uses the ranch as a base for regional operations, educational programming for youth, public recreation and high alpine research. We pulled noxious weeds, planted native flora, and moved a lot of very heavy rocks. The result will be a new alpine garden to help visitors better understand the beauty and fragility of our high-mountain environment. Learn more here, https://lnkd.in/gQN9SfYN. BGV is proud of our four decades of giving back to our community. Our philanthropic initiatives are managed by BGV Gives Manager, Tara Dew. Yesterday, Tara and team introduced more than three dozen of our nonprofit partners to our new--and streamlined!--grant request website. As we say in BGV's Community Impact Department, "We do well by doing good!"

One of our founders, Rob Millisor, passed away from a heart attack in 2015, while working on a medical relief mission in Nepal. Since 2016, BGV has honored his legacy of philanthropy by raising money for heart health projects. This year, BGV's Community Impact team debuted a new event, the Rob Millisor Legacy in Action Day. More than 250 BGV'ers used at least three hours of their Volunteer Time Off benefit to help nonprofits across and beyond Summit County, CO--all on one day! Here's how Ellen Reid, BGV's Director of Community Impact, summarized the results: WHAT WE ACHIEVED TOGETHER Not only did we raise $100,000 to support heart health and programs at the heart of our community we also contributed approximately 750 volunteer hours to our partner nonprofits! Here’s a snapshot of what the BGV volunteers accomplished: Packed 1,000 meals for distribution to local families in need through Smart Bellies. Installed nearly a mile of wire and durable fencing for Summit Valley Horse Center to protect rescued horses. Painted floors and ceilings, deep cleaned old fixtures, and landscaped at Café Food Rescue’s newly donated building, which they will use as a home base to package over 75,000 pounds of donated food each year and redistribute it to families in need. Completed wildfire mitigation at Mountain Area Land Trust’s Sacramento Creek Ranch by removing and chipping slash piles. Raked rocks to rebuild approximately 400 yards of walkway, painted 20 picnic tables and amphitheater benches, and tightened 76 camper bunk beds at Keystone Science School. Improved drainage and resorted 3.5 miles of the Salt Lick Trail with the Friends of the Dillon Ranger District. We know that no single person can ever replace what Rob did for our community. But 250 BGV'ers working together can come pretty close!

Every year, BGV nominates outstanding employees and teams for the American Resort Development Association industry awards. This was the first year that I wrote all of BGV's nominations (our friends at Interval International nominated our lead generation team). We are a relatively small single-site developer, but we go toe-to-toe with the industry giants including Disney, Hilton, Wyndham and others. The awards gala was last night in Las Vegas. BGV had eight nominees, from marketing, to sales, to resort operations. Final tally: eight golds and one silver! I am very proud of my talented colleagues. And a bit relieved!
