Exciting times in Tennessee last week as our President and CEO, Fred Dixon, had the pleasure of returning to his home state to attend the Tennessee Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Chattanooga Tourism Co.! Fred was honored to join Commissioner Mark Ezell of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development for a conversation to highlight the powerful impact of international inbound visitation. During a press conference, they shared how #BrandUSA and #TDTD are working together to showcase the vital role international travelers play in fueling local economies, supporting jobs, and fostering community growth across the nation. This week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State announced the designation of Qatar the 42nd market in the #VisaWaiverProgram (VWP). Soon, Qatar's citizens will be able to use the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) to visit the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa for tourism or business. In 2023, 33,283 Qataris visited the U.S., exceeding pre-pandemic levels. With current visa wait times in Doha at 121 days, entry into the VWP will remove this barrier and likely boost international arrivals from Qatar, as seen with Croatia and Israel. This significant step will make it easier for Qatari travelers to experience the diverse and exciting destinations across the USA.
