  • A little less than 2 weeks ago we came to you with a desperate plea. Our little Evaki needed help and an expensive MRI! We knew the testing would cost around $5000, and everything else would depend on what the costly MRI revealed. As Maury would say, "The results are in!" BUT, before you go running off the stage in tears, be sure to read all the way to the end! (But we can't promise you won't still be in tears.) Evaki was diagnosed with a Subarachnoid Diverticulum in her lumbar spine. No, there's not a spider living in there. What this mouthful of words means is that she has a little pocket of fluid compressing her spinal cord and causing paralysis. Surgery is a definite need for Evaki to have a chance at a normal life, and surgery will be an additional $5500-6500. THE BEST NEWS??? Evaki's surgery is scheduled for THIS THURSDAY, and YOU PEOPLE made that happen!!!! In a matter of hours, you donated enough funds to completely cover her MRI, and within a few days, you donated enough to cover her surgery too!!! Without knowing for sure what the outcome would be, you knew our organization would need you, and before we even asked, you made it happen! We always send hooooowwwwwls to the community when they show their support, but this calls for a hoooowwwwwwl, ROOOOAR, Oink, heeeeeehawwwwww, and all the grunts Momma Macaque can muster! Little Evaki (and we) are beyond grateful for your support. You've placed the sun right back in our sky. We will keep you posted on her progress, and the second she and Chester can be reunited, we will make sure you are in on the action! From the tops, bottoms and all sides of our hearts, THANK YOU, for giving this little bobcat her very best chance. At Black Pine Animal Sanctuary we are committed to giving these incredible animals the REST of their lives... and we simply could NOT do that without this level of support from our animal-loving community.

  • Sending a huge howwwwwwwwwl to the staff at Fort Wayne's Banfield Pet Hospital for spending the last 2 days on our beautiful grounds! Monday, they took a medical tour with our staff veterinary technician, and on both days they worked their tails off weed whacking, scrubbing toys, and cleaning up flower beds! We were thrilled to share our work with this group, and it was nice to see them enjoy our residents and take a little break from their day-to-day. Animal welfare staff and volunteers are some of the hardest working people on earth, and we are so grateful to host these devoted staff! THANK YOU, BANFIELD TEAM! Keep making the world a better place for pets and the people who love them. #BPAS2024 #blackpineanimalsanctuary #GFAS #truesanctuary #Banfield #petsmartcharities #communitysupport #peaceinthepines #thankyou #rescueanimals

  • An urgent situation at the sanctuary this week needs your help! You remember little, Evaki, right!? Earlier this year we shared some progression videos of her and our other resident bobcat, Chester, as they learned to become roommates and friends. It’s been a joy to watch these two play, hunt, and enrich each other’s lives simply by cohabitating. In the native Baikari culture, Evaki is known to be a night goddess responsible for placing the sun in the sky each day and putting it back in a jar each night. Right now, in the area we call “the woods” at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary, it’s pretty gloomy. Our little sun goddess is having some trouble that traces back to before she came to live with us. To read Evaki's story and learn how YOU can help, scan the QR code below or click this link to donate 👇 👇 👇

  • We've been hard at work on our strategic plan. This is just one more step in our capacity-building initiatives.

It's not whether animals will survive, it's whether man has the will to save them.

This was such a tremendous experience! I met some of the most amazing people. It's hard to believe we won't all be together again. Aside from the friendships and connections it was so informative. I gained so much from participating in this course.

Who needs some peace in their life??? Introducing, for the first time at Black Pine Animal Sanctuary: the Peace in the Pines yoga series! Life is hectic, and you deserve a break! Peace in the Pines was created to give you just that. This series is made up of 7 mid-week yoga sessions! The first session is July 17th, and sessions run until October 2nd. They will be held in the yard across from Patronus, our resident golden tabby liger. Patronus and 3 of his friends were confiscated from the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park formerly owned by Joe Exotic and featured in the Tiger King drama-mentory. These magnificent animals have come to live at Black Pine, and we are committed to providing them (and all of our residents) with the REST of their lives. We hope you enjoy Peace in the Pines with Patronus and his friends. Instructors, Amanda Parr and Lisa Selby, are excited to bring some calm to your work weeks, and we are beyond grateful for their support of our mission. Tickets for each session are $25, OR if you need all the peace you can get, $100 covers you for ALL 7 sessions! Each session will be about an hour of yoga and a stroll through the sanctuary to soak in all the sights and sounds of our beautiful grounds. You can register for individual sessions that fit your schedule or register for all 7 at this link 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 https://lnkd.in/gwXZ-tp3

  • With the bears out of hibernation our produce needs increase dramatically.

It's not whether animals will survive, it's whether man has the will to save them.

Our staff is gearing up to plant our summer garden at the sanctuary! In the summer months, our animals need 480 pounds of produce each week! Having a garden on the grounds helps supplement food costs and allows the staff time to stop when they can and play in the dirt if they need to. Gardening is not just about fresh food. There are many health benefits to gardening.  Gardening can reduce stress by focusing one's attention on the immediate tasks and details and by interacting with nature and water. Gardening can help you feel more connected to yourself, others, and the environment. Gardening can make you more mindful and aware of the present moment, improving your mood and self-esteem. Gardening can give you a sense of accomplishment, responsibility, and creativity. Gardening can stimulate your brain and memory and prevent cognitive decline. Gardening can help you keep in shape by burning calories and strengthening your muscles. Gardening can expose you to sunlight, which can increase your vitamin D levels, and to beneficial soil bacteria, which can improve your immunity. While I recognize that not everyone can have a garden on site for their staff, I encourage you to provide some place/activity where your staff can decompress and recharge in the middle of their day or whenever a little recharge is needed. Doing so will boost overall wellness and increase productivity.
