As part of a new series of video interviews, BCG’s CEO Christoph Schweizer talks to fellow leaders about their learnings from such pivotal moments. Governments face unprecedented pressure to balance fiscal responsibility with delivering high-quality public services in the wake of post-pandemic economic realities. Emerging technologies like AI and GenAI present new opportunities. When applied to specific functions and agencies, they can help governments recover 25% to 30% of costs over 10 years, without job losses. These findings are part of BCG’s latest report “Spend Smarter and Serve Better: A Blueprint for Improved Public Service.” Discover more insights from the report here: https://on.bcg.com/4eK6E7u

We asked our BCG experts what keeps them optimistic about the progress being made toward achieving climate and sustainability goals, including advances in AI tracking emissions information, investments from the private sector in adaptation and mitigation plans, social impact-uplifting communities, and the international collaboration required to tackle climate change head-on. Watch the video to learn more about the progress ahead. #BCGatUNGA24 #BCGatClimateWeek24

Our fourth annual survey on carbon emissions found that the overall pace of decarbonization has slowed—but that leaders are realizing significant financial value. In fact, a leading source of financial benefits was a reduction in operating costs; more than half of the companies surveyed reported that they believe their emissions can be reduced by 10% to 40% at a net cost savings. Climate mobility—people forcibly or voluntarily seeking safer environments, clean water, or refuge—is a consequence of severe weather patterns associated with climate change. From severe floods to droughts, climate change-related factors are reshaping continents. BCG's latest report, co-authored with the Cambridge Centre for Social Innovation, introduces three areas of action that may reduce climate mobility. 1. Boost water resilience with nature-based solutions. 2. Build social resilience through equitable policies and community involvement. 3. Foster collaboration between academics, practitioners, and communities Climate mobility is a complex challenge, but it is possible to mitigate the causes and impacts with cooperation.
