🥳 The Disability Inclusion Fund (DIF) is proud to have awarded $430k in Joy Grants to 43 disability-led organizations operating at the forefront of the disability justice, rights, and inclusion movement. We provide these grants in recognition that disability justice is also about the pursuit of self-determined and collective access to joy—the place where our communities are sustained long-term. ✨ Our incredible grantee partners, Disability Lead and Prism, shared with us how the grants expanded their capacity for rest and reflection, strengthened community relationship-building, and supported access to collective life-affirming experiences. 🌟 Embracing the power of culture as data! 📊 At #EssenceFest, on the Global Black Economic Forum I was grateful to highlight the significance of recognizing and amplifying black culture as a rich source of unequivocal data that truly reflects lived experiences. Let's leverage every platform available to celebrate and honor diverse cultural identities. I'm so excited about the data collaboration The Fund for Trans Generations has activated with Ubuntu Research & Evaluation, LLC, and what we are bringing to the philanthropic ecosystem! #CultureIsData #DiversityandInclusion #EmpowerThroughCulture 🌍✨

💰How much investment does it take to create a media ecosystem in which Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-led and -serving newsrooms thrive, and save our multiracial democracy? READ: In its new report, the Racial Equity in Journalism (REJ) Fund proposes four models between $381 million and $71 billion.  https://lnkd.in/djB-8RJr STAY TUNED: More updates from our Kaleidoscope LIVE! Summit soon!

At the recent Kaleidoscope LIVE! Summit, hosted by the Racial Equity in Journalism Fund at Borealis Philanthropy, our Development Director, Cierra Hinton, gathered with leaders from across the spectrum to talk about how to best improve sustainability and collaborative growth in the BIPOC journalism ecosystem. (Cierra, a former publisher and REJ Fund grantee, now coaches some of Blue Engine’s “pods” for REJ grantees, including those on grassroots fundraising and major donor development.) Some of Kaleidoscope LIVE!’s highlights: 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐈𝐏𝐎𝐂-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Every newsroom leader spoke about the expansive, strategic ways they use news and information to serve their community’s diverse identities and needs. Sustainability requires making an impact with useful reporting – and reaching the widest net of prospective audiences in the process. 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐈𝐏𝐎𝐂 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, 𝐭𝐨𝐨. We know that popular imagination and conversation are not solely shaped by print and digital news, but rarely do we find other types of content creators in journalism spaces. At Kaleidoscope, though, two film, (“One Million Experiments” and “Barrio Television”) were screened – a reminder that storytelling has many faces, and the more we collaborate across mediums the wider we can spread our reach. 𝐁𝐈𝐏𝐎𝐂-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬. There’s a lot of interesting work happening in diversifying revenue streams, growing digital-paying supporters, receiving support from philanthropy regardless of tax status, gaining new sponsorships and digital advertisers, and showing that growth does not require you to compromise on your values; in fact, it requires you to lead with them. We’re excited about the roadmap in “Repair, Reimagine, and Rebuild: Modeling the Future of News For and By Black, Brown, and Indigenous Communities.” This pivotal report advocates for an annual investment of up to $7.1 billion to support BIPOC-led journalism in the U.S. You can delve into the details here: https://lnkd.in/eNb88Rk4 We're deeply grateful for the opportunity to support and learn alongside the remarkable entrepreneurial spirits at the organizations supported by the REJ Fund – with special thanks to DaLyah Jones, Jessica N., Manami Kano, and Alicia Bell. Their ongoing philanthropic and media leadership continues to inspire and drive meaningful change.

🌟 Reflecting on an incredible experience at the 2024 Social Impact Fund Summit: The Future of Hollywood Philanthropy! 🌟 Honored to share the stage with inspiring individuals. Huge thanks to Sharon Stone for her powerful keynote on Hollywood's role in sustainable change, and to Wilson Cruz for moderating our panel on partnerships and corporate giving. Privileged to discuss alongside Charlize Theron, Carmen Villar Neo Mehaijane, and DaShawn Usher From Julie Bowen to Uzo Aduba - I’m eternally thankful for their invaluable insights. The summit, organized by the Social Impact Fund, Gilead Sciences and The Hollywood Reporter brought together thought leaders to explore effective strategies for addressing social issues in Hollywood. "How do I put those practices inside of myself? How do I put those practices inside of myself in relationship to other human beings that I work with on a daily basis? And then how do we begin to interpret and move on those practices and watch them spread, not just within our organization, but watch them really take shape out in the world as we continue to move throughout other organizations in the sector? ... It's change within people ... a ripple effect.” So many thanks to Dawn Wolfe Inside Philanthropy for talking with me, Ribkah Amaha Naga, and Adriana Rocha about Borealis Philanthropy's REACH Fund, and its long-term vision and investment strategy. #racialequity #racialequitypractitioners #progressivephilanthropy #progressive #philanthropy #nonprofit #deiinvestments #dei https://lnkd.in/eumRgxMW

At the Presidents’ Council of the Disability & Philanthropy Forum, we seek to disrupt ableism in philanthropy by supporting disabled-led movements and calling on other leaders in our sector to model important systems change.   More than 61 million disabled Americans – or 1 in 4 adults – continue to experience the structural barriers that are embedded in our health and healthcare systems. As STAT points out, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Olmstead Decision that outlawed the segregation of disabled people in institutions. Progress on being fully inclusive of people with disabilities has been too slow.   One way to accelerate progress is for those in Philanthropy to sign and implement the Disability Inclusion Pledge, a commitment to doing more, and then move from the pledge to action through significant funding commitments to both the Disability Inclusion Fund at Borealis Philanthropy and the Disability & Philanthropy Forum. Learn more about what we do at the Presidents’ Council and how to join us at the link in the comments.   https://lnkd.in/e2jENHYM
