“I started Boom because I believed the world needed supersonic flight. The world is not well served by a duopoly where there is no incentive to build a leapfrog product.” Boom founder and CEO Blake Scholl discusses why innovation is stuck in a holding pattern. https://lnkd.in/eZpAzsU2

Since first announcing Symphony in December 2022, the engine’s design and development have progressed at a rapid pace. Today, we are excited to share that Symphony has entered rig testing. The initial tests are focused on analyzing combustor aerodynamics. Boom will conduct more than 30 rig tests with design partner Florida Turbine Technologies Inc., a Kratos Company. Since XB-1 successfully completed its first flight, the team has continued to test and confirm the aircraft's performance and handling qualities in final preparations for second flight. Yesterday, XB-1 performed aircraft checkouts, including a 60 knot taxi test, multiple flight control sweeps, and operation of all three engines within their entire range. Following first flight, optimizations made to the aircraft include a modified flight control system. Learn more about XB-1 here: https://lnkd.in/eVb8m5V

Chris Taylor, Boom’s VP of manufacturing, has watched the Overture Superfactory go from groundbreaking to construction site, and as of this week, to completion. “I am proud to say that construction on the building is complete! We celebrated this milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 17, 2024, joined by our construction partners, BE&K Building Group, as well as local leaders and elected officials who helped bring this accomplishment to fruition. We have also had great support from the Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO), which is where the campus is located.” The 179,000 square foot Superfactory houses the state-of-the-art assembly line where Boom will build its supersonic airliner, Overture. As the first supersonic airliner factory in the United States, the Superfactory will play an integral role in ensuring America’s continued leadership in aerospace manufacturing.
