Happy National Intern Day! We have two incredible interns on our team this summer, Olivia Luckinbill and Avery Jackson. Olivia is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Architecture. After attending 4 years at the Blacksburg campus, Olivia came to the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center as a Firm Advisory Board scholar to write her thesis on reimagining highway interchange infrastructure. During her fifth year, Olivia worked with us as a part-time intern and has been with us full-time since her graduation. Olivia has worked on many marketing drawings for projects such as Park Ford, 1 Hawaii Avenue, The Community Partnership, and Hecker House, and assists with project work. Avery is a rising 5th year Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, while completing a minor in Urban Studies. She has spent a semester abroad in Helsinki, Finland, where she deepened her passion for urban design and adaptive reuse. Avery has spent her time at B|HA working on marketing drawings, participating in site visits, and assisting with preliminary site measurements, schematic design, and client meetings for a rowhouse renovation project. Olivia and Avery have been invaluable members of our team, contributing to our efforts, standards, and culture. We are happy to have them with us and look forward to their future accomplishments and contributions to the profession! #nationalinternday #futurearchitects

About us
Bonstra | Haresign ARCHITECTS is guided by the belief that architecture transforms communities and inspires people. Founded in 2000 in the heart of Washington, DC, we are a firm of 30 highly-qualified and creative architects and designers - problem-solvers who thrive on finding innovative solutions to the challenges of cities and neighborhoods. We are passionate about the power of architecture to uplift and revitalize the physical environment and the economic and social conditions of our world. We operate in a collegial studio environment: each team member participates in all aspects of project design, development and execution. An open discussion of architectural ideas and client solutions is valued and encouraged. Our staff works on diverse projects, ranging in size and complexity from residential renovations and adaptive use to large-scale, commercial and mixed-use developments. Our team lives and works in the neighborhoods in which our projects are built. Partners and team members give back to the community through teaching and involvement in local professional, civic and volunteer organizations. This ethos of community involvement is encouraged at every level. We believe that architecture should be expressive of its time, fulfill client and community aspirations, respond appropriately to its physical context, and inspire the public by being memorable and creative. We are inspired by challenging site constraints, thoughtful restoration, adaptive use of existing buildings, contemporary design and modern insertion in historic fabric. Our work catalyzes, revitalizes and sustains environments ranging from urban neighborhoods to rural landscapes. We create bold, modern, visually expressive buildings that complement their surroundings and raise the aspirations of the public and our profession.

The Randolph Road team is making significant progress! The crew recently finished the exterior skin for building three and is now working through finishes and preparing for owner walks in the same building. In addition, drywall is being hung and units are being insulated in the first four garden-style apartment buildings. Located in Silver Spring, MD, Randolph Road will soon offer a 195-unit, deeply affordable community for residents in Montgomery County. Included in the community will be family-sized three- and four-bedroom home options. In addition, amenities will include an on-site community center, on-site resident services staff and programming, a fitness center, a half-acre public park with a playground, picnic area, walkways, and open lawn areas, on-site childcare, and six EV charging stations.
