Bon Secours Mercy Health is excited to announce the arrival of a new and improved orthopedic robot to Bon Secours -- St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia)! Matthew Dobzyniak, MD was the first orthopedic surgeon to perform a robotic assisted total knee replacement at St Mary's in 2021. As robotic technology has improved, facilitated by imageless orthopedic robotics, we are thrilled to reintroduce the Robotically Surgery Assistant (ROSA) platform back to patients at St Mary’s Hospital. This proven technology is available for hip, knee, and shoulder replacement surgeries. ROSA robotics does not require a CT or MRI scan prior to the surgical procedure which reduces patient cost and radiation exposure. It allows the surgeon to perform a reproducible patient specific joint replacement. According to Dr. Dobzyniak, “This customization, to an individual patient's unique anatomy, allows for a potentially more natural feeling knee, hip or shoulder replacement with less disruption of the surrounding soft tissues. In turn, this has the potential to speed recovery after surgery.” The precision and customization provided by robotics as well as the ability to capture data on multiple patients should improve joint replacement outcomes for everyone.
