  • Yesterday, the City of Los Angeles celebrated its new bus shelter program with city leaders and community members at one of the newly installed stops. Based on extensive research on LA riders, Designworks’ LA studio developed a digital suite featuring e-ink screens that display real-time information and serve as flexible signage for city-wide events, weather updates, and route changes. To unify all digital touchpoints, we also crafted a distinctive visual identity that embodies the city's vibrant people and culture and created a companion app to enhance the digital experiences at physical shelters. This innovation allows riders to better plan routes, preview journeys in advance, and maintain their privacy. For Designworks LA, this was truly a passion project – the opportunity to work with an incredible line-up of partners to accomplish positive change in our own city – improving the lives of our fellow LA locals and making strides towards a more accessible city. Led by StreetsLA Bureau of Street Services, the Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (STAP) initiative will install or upgrade 3,000 bus shelters and 450 shade structures at transit stops throughout Los Angeles over the next decade. The program will be rolled out in areas of need, starting in Koreatown, Hollywood, and communities across the San Fernando Valley. The shelters integrate a suite of amenities, including real-time bus tracking, public alert systems, a digital art program, and smart lighting technology. Learn more about the project below. They’re working at breakneck speed to discover new processes and business models.   Meanwhile, Designwork’s robust agency and innovation model is starting to attract the interest of the political world: Following a visit to our Santa Monica studio in January by Volker Wissing (German Minister for Digital and Transport) to learn more about our latest projects, particularly in the area of #AI, last week, German Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck visited our Designworks studio in Shanghai.   Habeck’s visit was part of a three-day trip to China, during which the BMW Group China’s Research & Development Center was pleased to welcome him as guest. Our Designworks Shanghai studio is an integral component of this R&D Center.   ➡ Discussions between Mr. Habeck and BMW Group China’s management team largely revolved around topics such as innovation in the area of intelligent, internet-connected vehicles and sustainable development.   ➡ Mr. Habeck’s visit to our Shanghai studio primarily focused on Designwork’s innovation model and its role in fostering the absorption and incorporation of design impulses originating in China by BMW Group Design.   Did you know? #BMW local R&D in China is in its 20th year and has now become the largest R&D network outside Germany, covering every facet – from design to human-machine interaction to software. And our Designworks studio is right at the center of this exciting venture! #BMWGroupDesignworks #ArchitectsOfFuture

Designworks has been commissioned with the redesign of the most prestigious prize for contemporary art in Germany - Preis der Nationalgalerie. 🏆 Four vertical steel plates, inspired by the architecture of the Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, are set in a plinth. This forms the foundation – just like the Alte Nationalgalerie from a historical perspective. Steel literally plays a supporting role in the construction of the buildings, evident in the Neue Nationalgalerie and the historic hall of the Hamburg Bahnhof. Differences in the trimming of the individual panels, with the transformation from straight line to arch, symbolize the connection between the buildings. Steel-grey color gradients and the color spectrum reflect the interaction between the institutions and make each trophy unique. So are the exceptional contributions of Pan Daijing, Dan Lie, Hanne Lippard, and James Richards to contemporary art - congratulations! ▶ Discover more details in the first comment! #Nationalgalerie2024 #ArtInnovation #DesignExcellence #Designworks

  • How can we design solutions that will be just as appealing as those nature provides? That´s a question we’ve been pondering for a long time and that has become a driving force for our teams.   So, during munich creative business week, we discussed our ideas with the general public and gained some great insights! A huge “thank you” to all the visitors who embarked with us on our experimental journey and discussed with us... 🍃 what the role of the designer is today and what it will be in the future 🍃 how the design industry can contribute to helping people view themselves and their actions through the prism of nature 🍃 how design can instill a desire to give back to nature 🍃 how we can best explore the intersection between human-made and nature-given   #MunichCreativeBusinessWeek is a week-long design event held annually in May across the entire city of Munich. We’re already looking forward to mcbw 2025! #MunichCreativeBusinessWeek #IAMNATURE #DesignWeek #DesignEvents #MCBW2024

We are very honored that on the final day of an absolutely jam-packed, inspiring Design Week, munich creative business week invited us to jump on the #DesignBus and, as we traversed beautiful Munich, gave us the opportunity to exchange ideas about mobility, design and sustainability in a discussion moderated by journalist Oliver Herwig. Reportedly, Holger Hampf, Head of Designworks and Christiane Bausback, Managing Director of N P Design GmbH "had a blast on the bus". Here are four takeaways from the conversation:   🚲 ✈ 🚘 : The future of mobility is multimodal. The goal: to optimally network all forms of transportation. 🍃 🍃 🍃: Ease and convenience are the most crucial elements when it comes to gaining acceptance for the different modes of transportation. 🚅 🚆 🚇: In the future, train travel will [have to] be substantially more flexible and offer more options. 🚉 🚋 🛵: Train stations will [have to] evolve into true mobility hubs that [will] orchestrate the transition to the various other modes of transportation.   Many thanks to the BayernDesign team, #MCBW, and the DESIGNBUS!

  • Join us today as we wonder: If bees and trees were our design consultants, what kind of solutions would we come up with? Find out at our Munich Studio event this afternoon, when we open our doors and invite you to join us at “I AM NATURE.”   As part of munich creative business week, the Designworks Munich team will explore what it truly means for designers to view themselves as being one with Nature and what new, intriguing aesthetic design impulses can emerge from designing with a “Nature Mindset.”   “I Am Nature” is a playful and experimental event, during which the Designworks team will embark on a shared journey of discovery with you. Don’t expect any product showcases or ready-made solutions – or even definitive answers. What our designers are interested in is involving you in their thought processes and creative struggles, hearing your ideas, and, in passing, perhaps jointly sparking some enlightening “AHA” moments that might lead us all to make different decisions in our daily creative work and everyday life.   Do you work in the creative industry? Mark this event in your calendar!   🐝 May 16, 2024 | Doors open 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM 🌳 No entry fee. 🌾 No reservation required. 🐸 Conversations in German and English!   Designworks, a BMW Group Company Infanteriestrasse 11 A/ Building B1 80797 München   #MunichCreativeBusinessWeek #IAMNATURE #DesignWeek #DesignEvents #MCBW2024
