Meet Bluestem Health's Hospital Tracking Supervisor, Rhianon Martinez! What do you in your current position?: Our team gets notified about our patients that have gone to the ER/hospital. We call these patients to get them scheduled for a f/u appointment here at bluestem. The hospitals also call us to schedule new and existing patients. After a patient is scheduled I do the medication reconciliation to update patient's medication list here. This way the providers to have an up-to-date medication list for when the patient comes to their appointment. How did you get into your career?: I have always loved to help people. After becoming a CNA, I decided that nursing would be a perfect career fit for me. It was a great way to give people the help they need and deserve. Why did you choose to work at a community health center?: I have worked with many different types of patients/people in my career as a nurse. I have met people from all walks of life. At a community health center, you are able help people with all of their needs, not just medical needs. Our CEO, Brad L. Meyer, FACMPE, is on the Lincoln/Lancaster County Advisory Board and a Relay for Life team member of the American Cancer Society. We are proud that many of our staff volunteer their time and represent our organization in the communities we serve.
As part of Lincoln's American Cancer Society Advisory Board, we play a crucial role in supporting the incredible work of the Hope Lodge. On Tuesday night, we had a tour of the Hope Lodge in Omaha, Nebraska, and were privileged to serve dinner and talk to the guests. This is an excellent service for patients undergoing treatment for all types of cancer who must be away from home. Most people stay one or two nights, while others stay for up to 18 months. There is never a charge to use their facilities, so it saves patients a lot of money on hotel room reservations. We receive an annual grant of approximately $1.75 million from HRSA—a lifeline that enables us to provide affordable, comprehensive care across all age groups.
